sandersj89
THis post really makes me regret my choice of career in a way, got a really well paid job and a lovely house in the country now, but have always wanted to get into farming since growing up, practically, on a mates farm. The problem is there is a huge barrier to entry into farming, the cost of land and the working capital to set it up and run it for a couple of years before you get much in the way of income. Land prices at the moment are scary! Jerry

Land prices at the moment are scary! Jerry Oh yes Jerry I am aware of that mate, let mne explain a bit better! My friend has no son to run the farm once he retires and his daughters are all career girls, just think every now and then that if I quit and went to work for him then I could take the load and run the farm when he wants to put his feet up! He has already made it plain as day that he considers me to be like a son. We are talking about 10yrs time and so would have plenty of time to pick things up. Oh the quibbles of life! Thanks And a good insight in to a normal day for a farmer, sounds like bloody hard work, but I bet you loved every minute of it, even the rain Thanks for the diary & I hope things work out for you & your family next year SS

Suffolk shooter
I have just spent the first half hour at work reading this and enjoyed every minute of it. Cheers for posting, it was interesting to say the least, and good to see the kids enjoying country life to the max. The weather seems like it could have been a whole lot better for you, but at least it seemed you managed to do a variety of things throughout, even if some of them were to moan at the contractors and the idiots calling for permission. Good piccies too. Keep it up. SS

Let me know when and we will see, we are often down in school holidays, the plan is to move there full time in the summer next year. Oh and sort your dates before Christmas if you can as we get pretty booked up as we only take 5 vans at a time. Many thanks to everyone who commented on my posts, glad it was enjoyed. Tom Janaway
Good diary thingy, I have a friend who lives in devon and when i go down, i help him when he volunteer's at the south devon railway in buckfastleigh, which the butterfly farm is right next too. they have quite a rabbit problem there, and as far as i know they dont have anyone dealing with the problem. If you ( or anyone else in that area ) is looking for a good place to shoot rabbits then prehaps you could ask if you can to shoot there. p.s my friend lives in starcross.
