sharp_shooter
I have shot a pigeon in a tree this morning but am sorry to say i didn't kill it, it just flew off. This has happened once before aswell. Does the POA change if you shoot something higher up and lower down than you are? If so does the pellet hit higher or lower when shooting up? Thanks for the help.
Teal
Chances are 9/10 that you went for a body shot. Only do head shots on pigeons with an airifle. Regards, William
sharp_shooter
They were meant to be headshots and i know where to aim at all the ranges. If it happened once then it could have just been me but twice in a row made me think.
sammy the bull
as a rule of thumb always aim lower on high shot and low shots, if you know what i mean. for instance, when shooting pigeon high up at say 45 degree angle i aim low on the bird and normaly score a hit in the head. the same goes for shooting down hill too. practice these shoots first before going out with your gun. it will make you a better and more confident shot with your rifle, and more importantly wont injure the bird with body shots.....i used to be like you and somone gave me the same advice and it worked so well i never miss now {well nearly always}
sharp_shooter
Thanks for the help. Glad to hear it isn't just me.
ratcatcherreed
mmmmmmmmmm. i take all my pigeons with a body shot mainly aiming at the heart which is just before the wing, and my air rifle kills em. i think head shots are more risky because it could end up with a shattered beak so the bird starves to death
sharp_shooter
Yeah but with a body shot you might hit them in the wing so they end up being eaten by something. The risk of missing is the same either spot but with a headshot if you miss the likelyhood of injuring the bird is less.
ollie
A head shot makes for a more challenging shot also, A pigeon sitting in a tree with its breast pointing towards you isn't a very challenging shot.
BOLTA
Hi, I like to hit them in the chest and see the expression on their faces then they go down. Glad that I am not the one that is going to take a 26.2 grain Bisley Pest Control pellet with 56 fpe behind it right into the chest. Cheers - Bolta
lurcherboy
Sharp Shooter, please don't take offence but, if you need advice on a shot like that, you need to sit down one night and read a book. I would suggest a Darling title. Remember his lessons. LB
