Centrepin
Sat sitting, dog on knee in a palatial hide this morning, nary a bird in sight🤭 I was thinking about the ruler straight branches of a Silver Birch by my side, some well over 6' long and the perfect diameter for walking sticks or thumb sticks. How good is Silver Birch for walking sticks? If so when is the best time to cut? Edited November 11, 2020 by Centrepin
boo
Looks decent in a stick rack , bark colours up well , but peels & chips easily whilst working it , wouldn't use one in the field , often find birch twisters...

Dont be put off I have some silver birch stick that have been made around twelve years ago and these still look as good as new...
