Mainly the italians and greeks hunt them with pointers in the stubble which is more to the west of victoria. To the east its more mountainous and has more sambar deer. Certainly the numbers can be worth hunting not just for sport but actually for a half decent feed. The big debate over here at the moment is quail callers. At the moment its not illegal but my guess it will be soon, just like electronic callers for deer. Game species is treated a lot different to "feral" species such as fox and rabbit and have special protections on the methods of hunting.
