Concrete Shed base advice

Hypothetically if, I was to build an outside kennel for a dog that I don't have yet.

If I put a concrete base down say 2 m x 5m how deep would it have to be?

For round figures if the kennel was 2m x 2m and the outside netted area 2m x 3m is that big enough? The dog would be a medium size dog.

Any other information welcomed

6 inches deep with a steel mesh .in it .

yup :good:.....put a slope on it to the out side then a channel to a terram lined soak-a-way (dosnt need to be very big)...then all you do is pick up the solids and wash down with Jeyes fluid once / week...........use several layers of vets bedding as this will allow the air to circulate all around the dog and can be hosed off now and again ...quick shake and its dry again

sorry if im teaching you to suck eggs......

(ps infa-red lamp..to dry the dog off quick..and will warm the bones...once the dog is dry turn it off)

Depth of concrete depends on sub base but 100mm properly compacted sub base with 100mm concrete is more than adequate.

If you put drainage for wash down try not to use a soak away and make sure to have very good grilles/drain covers as even if you think you have picked up properly hair and debris will very soon clog a soak away.

I have 1 small/medium dog and she has 1.5x1m insulated kennel for bed and 1.5x 3m enclosed run.

Hope this helps.

No, keep the information coming, I am not a builder and appreciate advice, it's something that I've never done so thought that I would ask so that I could cost it all up 👍

Thanks for your advice. How do you get drains from the bottom of the garden though, it's uphill too, soak away may be only solution 🤔

Just a thought for you .

I built a kennel and run (timber ) out side for my dog before I got him .

When he arrived he was very small so we kept him in the house .we never actually had him out side over night in the kennel once  .it just wasn't needed .

As such I took it down after about a year .

I think if you have more than one dog then a kennel is a good idea .but solo .and you have have trouble with the dog not liking the separation from his family  .

Well to be honest I wouldn't want it to be a full time home for the hypothetical dog just to put it it there for an hour or so if it starts to be a handful or if we want to nip out for an hour. Just give it a large beef bone to chew on to keep it occupied and not left in the house to chew what it wants.

I had a boxer dog years ago that destroyed an arm chair and was only left half an hour 😳 there was stuffing everywhere, he was so proud, my Mrs went ballistic.
