Cranfield
Its that time of year again and in the last few days the marsh has become full of swallows and house martins, getting ready for their migration. We also have large groups of starlings grouping up for their mock migration as well. Any other coastal areas noticing this ?

vole
I dont live on the coast any more,to my regret and miss the nightly flight of 1000,s of starlings on their way to roost at the Bessemer furnaces at British Steel,Workington. They used to light up half the Cumbrian sky. Sorry to digress but had my memory jogged good and proper.Cold clear night over Cheshire.Hardly seen a wasp for weeks.
Chard
Most of the Swallows have gone from here now. I was driving around Manchester/Bolton/Bury/Oldham last week and all day there were significant numbers flying over, all headed Saaaaaaaaaarf. I thought a lot of them were Martins at first, but I think most were young Swallows, with short tail feathers Vole21, you ought to go to Frodsham Marsh for Starlings Millions of them, you can hear them coming from a long way off, then they come over and the sky goes dark Might be a bit early yet, but I've seen them there in previous years. Ferret Master
Starlings going to roost in their thousands is truely spectacular! I recall the advert on TV last year to the tune of 'going out tonight' with thousands going to roost. FM

Chard
This is what I was wittering on about! FM They're like that on Frodsham Marsh, especially when the hawks rip into them. There's Merlins, Peregrines and Sparrowhawks after them in Winter down there - awesome
