The law as it currently stands allows you to shoot unsupervised on private land providing you have permission. You cannot purchase a shotgun or cartridges; you can however either borrow or be given them by another shotgun certificate holder. This is normally a parent but it doesn't have to be providing you parents are happy with someone else giving you carts etc.

Also if a shotgun is gifted to you by another certificate holder at 15; you become its legal owner . This is providing it is entered onto your certificate and the relevant notification is sent to the Chief Constable of the local police force by both parties. One problem to consider is that you are either going to require your own cabinet or have the shotguns of the person you share with put onto your certificate.

Best Regards,

Wait for njc110381 to reply to this post (or PM him). He's from your neck of the woods and appears to be having a truly appalling time trying to get his FAC.

I'm sure my experience is just an unlucky one, at least I hope so for your sake! My SGC took about 3 months to turn up, which I was happy enough with. However, when I put in for my FAC a few months later things went a little wrong. I applied in January and had all my visits for land checks (only apply to FAC, so you don't need to worry about this bit) and the home visit to check the cabinet done within a couple of months. Then, nothing! I got a call last week from Les Spice who is the head of the firearms department for Gloucestershire, he said they've lost my application. I have to start again, land checks, home visit, photos, references etc. So, after 8 months I'm back where I started, and I'm not happy at all. I really do hope you have more luck, and to be honest I doubt that this sort of thing happens often so you should get it fairly soon.

On the posession side of things you can have the gun entered on all the certificates (yours, your grandads and your brothers) so you can be in posession of the gun for as long as you wish. However, you cannot have access to the cabinet the gun is stored in unless all the guns in it are on your certificate. The same applies to your brother (assuming your grandad has the safe, and holds other guns in it too).

Where abouts in Gloucestershire are you (without giving too much detail)?

Omg so does that mean when my sgc finaly arives in the post, i will be able to transfer my guns onto my licance, and go shooting by myself, because im 16?

Yes, but the person who has the certificate for the guns at the moment has to put it onto your cert. You are only allowed to write on your cert yourself when you sign it. Also both of you have to notify the chief constable of the transfer as I mentioned before. A suitable form to do this can be found here:

http://www.sagbni.co.uk/downloads/Notifica...sfer_Letter.rtf

It must be sent to the "Chief Constable" at the firearms licensing address within 7 days of the transfer taking place. Recorded or Special delivery are the only LEGALLY accepted methods of sending this notification. You should also confirm with the licensing dept that they did receive the notification.

I know some of you may say that fax was approved a few years ago for notifications but it has officially never been incorporated into the act. It is just rule of precidence; while this may provide a reasonable defence in court. If you stick to the act-approved methods then they can't do you over it in the first place.

i guess so mate :good:

im in south-gloucestershire, near stroud i think :good::w00t:

If you're in the Stroud area then your FEO will probably be Chris Lees. He's a really nice guy, and for a copper also quite a laugh. He's not too serious about things, which I found made me more relaxed when I was talking to him. Keep us posted on how things go, you sound like you should get what you want without too much trouble :w00t:

Well if you are not prohibitied under s21 and you have some form of good reason for owning a shotgun (ie you are taking up clays at the local ground etc) then the police would have to technically prove that issuing a shotgun cert would make you a "danger to public safety and the peace."

Obviously this is all fine on paper but in reality the police can have quite a severe line on it, they often tend to forget that its up to them to prove you are unsuitable not the other way around. Though hopefully the BASC can jog their memory a bit.
