tikkamark
I went out for 2 hours there last night with a mate of mine daniel he is big into his terriers and wippets frank knows him quite well.He has a 20bore shottie but no rifle he sees a lot of foxes when hes out with the wippets at night he is well able to call a fox into range for the wippets but there is also a good few he sees that sit out at distance that he cant get without a rifle thats where i come in We had planned to go lamping on saturday night but its been seriously foggy here the past few days so didnt get the chance,it was clear there last night for a while anyway so we decided to go out he knows where almost every fox in his area is so we had a couple of spots lined up to try first off was a stubble field but nothing was stirring so we went up the road to another spot-a large sheep farming patch of land we walked in a good distance in the hope of seeing a pair or single fox that daniel has called in a couple of times but just not close enough for the wippets we eventually spotted a fox feeding along the ditch the far side of the field but the field was almost totally flat so a shot off the bipods was a bit dodgy with no backstop so we made our way quietly across to a fence in the middle of the field i rested the rifle on a concrete fence post which gave me a safe angle at the fox which was still a long way out so daniel gave a squeal to bring him in the fox came in at full speed and stopped at 100yards staring straight at us it was a really big dog i got into a bit of a panic and found it hard to get the crosshair steady on his chest eventually i squeezed off the shot and the fox hit the deck and the satisfying thud came back  daniel was surprised how quiet the shot sounded he said the fox did the same thing the last time he called it-he stopped at roughly the same distance but felt something was not right and ran off.We went to another spot where daniel seen a pair of foxes feeding on a dead sheep 2 weeks back but fog got really bad and we had to pack it in,hope to get out again the next windy night Heres daniel with the fox the 55gr v-max entered his chest and exited his through his shoulder bullet did a lot of damage Mark. JohnGalway
Well done Mark  Don't talk to me about fog Saw two tonight, fairly jumpy the both of them. Would have had the first easy until I looked through the scope, bloody white out. Got an emergency call out then, three foxes in a field and the lads had no caller. Nothing there by the time I arrived, was a few miles away but covered it fairly quick

lazza
I'm pleased you mentioned that your first option wasn't a safe shot. That comment should help people that are new to lamping and read this thread. I'm also a bit shaky shooting off of fence posts, although it's usually because I'm unfit and puffing like a train by the time I get there. Nice fox Mark, Well Done

We seen that dead sheep, in the feild when i was up last, then the dogs bolted a big fox, just like the one your holding up. Keep up the good work, thats why the game population is doing well round them parts and me self and Daneil got them courses last time i was up, because your shooting them foxes, top man. Frank. Nice fox Mark, Well Done Thanks a millon for all replies lads Lazza i would not take a shot with the rifle unless i can see exactly whats behind the target and the shot is a safe one no fox or any animal is worth the risk I aint the greatest at the shots off fence posts or shooting free standing but getting a bit better at it Frank the fox that was feeding on the sheep managed to keep moving every time i got down to shoot we followed him/her through a couple of fields but managed to slip away into the fog but im sure we will have another encounter in the near future
