Doc Holliday
Having had progressively worsening osteoarthritis of the right knee, amd following seeing a specialist, I have a decision to make. Osteotomy or a partial knee replacement. I know there are pro's & cons for both and that is why I would like to hear from anyone who have had either, especially the former as this is the one I'm considering. The recovery is longer, which is potentially the biggest downside for me, but you have more longevity & have your own knee. Partial knee replacement has a quicker recovery but the downside is not as much range of movement plus will only last about 10 years. Thanks in advance. Mice!
I've just looked at pictures of the Osteotomy to see if its what my old fella had done, it's not, he had a lot of different things done, but he had a new prototype knee put in and was like a new man, problem was he wore out his other knee thinking he was young again. Velocette
Just had a complete replacement right knee, three weeks ago. It's all healed up, able to walk over a mile without a rest and all the flexibility is coming back with a series of daily physio exercises. Just starting to be able to walk up stairs normally, downstairs will take a little longer I expect. I should have done it years ago ! The only downside is the aching discomfort when trying to get into a comfortable sleeping position but that's improving now. I was taking 6 Paracetamol a day for the first week but now can get by with three or four a day, and these are only to make exercise more comfortable. Cranfield
I had a right knee replacement in 2005 (17 years ago) and my left knee replaced in 2010 (12 years ago). Early knee replacements back in 80's 90's did mostly last about 10 years, but the improvement in the procedure that came in the 2020's increased their longevity. I have always had full movement in my legs following these operations , with no restrictions at all. Its important to do the full physio exercises as instructed. Failure to do this could cause some atrophy of the muscles. Mine still feel like new and give me no problems.
