We had our little cock day yesterday, nice day as it always is ,I think we all had a shot so that's the main thing and every body seemed happy , the guns brush for us on that day which is nice, a their bit to say thanks, finished with 35 , and it was nice to still see a lot of wood cock. Thanks for reading👍

Sounds like a well deserved enjoyable day was had 👍🏻 . I’ve got my last day this coming Saturday and after missing one due to a traffic accident and whiplash I can’t wait to get back out, complete with pocket full of pain killers just in case.

I love the end of season tidy up days , I say tidy up days as one shoot I used to go, the beaters were allowed to shoot anything that was game , same as your shoot where the guns done the beating for the helpers who were invited , this would include beaters , picker uppers and the odd farmer whose land they shot over , always a nice day and more than enough left over so everyone would get some shooting .

On our main shoot we have got our last full day this Saturday and the beaters day is on Tuesday , on this shoot we split up into two teams and try and get in eight drives so both teams get a chance on standing on four drives while the other team do the beating , I like to be a free hand and just do me own thing , I don't go in either team and stand well back so I do some picking up and tidy up a few ole cocks as a back gun , this is my choice as I don't like standing on a peg for long periods and have done it now for several years , give me a chance to have a coffee while the beaters bring in a load of land , not only that after spending most of my life on the estate I know within a little where the bulk of the birds will come on the drives they have planed out for the day . all in all a day we all look forward to.

PS   As for Woodcock I did say on another thread that last Saturday we saw more Woodcock than we did Pigeons and that was a true fact . they were everywhere.:drinks:

THANKS TO ALL for reading and comments, Let's hope you (Spr1985) get to your day which is comming up and sorry to here about your accident, And thanks MARSH MAN for reading and replying , I always usually do like you stand and be back gun and pick up , but I have no dog now to pick up , I'm sure sometimes you get more shooting doing that than being on a peg, when at the end of season, you get them crafty old cocks that will now know the routes to take 👍and you enjoy your last days, it's the end of season so on come,s round🤔, and thanks ALED yes we did see a lot of woodcock yesterday but we haven't shot them for a few year,s ,and the way we do it is the guns can have 1 through the season each if they provide a picture of it cooked and on the plate ready for eating, which puts people of shooting them just for shooting something, seems to work for us Cheers and all the best 👉👍👈

Thank you, I did make it to my last day and  a fantastic day was had, although I should have known better and I’m now suffering the consequences 🤦‍♂️ such is life.
