tulkyuk
Hi All, This week has been ........ shall we say hectic . It started on tuesday morning when i had to take my seven year old daughter into hospital to have an eye operation - she had to have the muscule on the outside of both eyes cut and reattached to correct a slight squint ( she is fine now, but both me and my wife were quite worried for a while as she had to have op done under general anaesthetic). Then the week started to get better - on wednesday i was out on a boundry day with a few guys and managed to shoot 10 pheasants out of a total bag of 50 ( 47 pheasants, 1 mallard, 1 partidge and 1 pigeon), so a pretty good result for just a small walk about day . On thursday morning i went Deer Stalking ( Fallow Bucks) - i got to the forrestry at about 6.30am, just before light broke and made my way to the high seat, with plenty of signs of deer on the way and quite a few roars from some big bucks on thier rutting stands. i got to the high seat and set my self up for the inevitable wait, after about hour an or so i was starting to think nothing would come, as the sun was up by now and most of the deer would of moved back into the forrest after thier night eating and foraging on the fields that surround it. Then out of the corner of my eye i noticed a bit of movement (lower left corner of first picture) and out of the trees came a lovely Fallow Doe into the clearing ( would of made a nice shot at about 80yrds, but they are not in season yet ) and that was about all i seen whilst up in the high seat . so i got back to my truck and put everything away and drove back down the hill, the next thing on my way down a HUGE big Fallow Buck steps out right in front of me and stands in the road ( bloody typical i thought ) - he see me and then just trots off back into the forest. never mind though, i 'll back out next week and maybe i'll get a chance to shoot the big feller again - i was still nice to be out at such a lovely time of the morning in a gorgeous setting. View from High seat Picture of high seat Then last night i went out foxing with 1 of the beaters from an estate i shoot on, we had been going round for an hour or so and hadn't seen a thing ( i must be doing my job too well ), when we came a cross a big bright pair of eyes across a field amonst some cows, so i stopped the truck and got me rifle ready ( Sako 75 - .243) and lent across the bonnet and told steve to put the lamp on - charlie was sat about 140yrds away and looked like he didn't have a care in the world, that was untill i squeezed the trigger and sent a remmington 75grn accutip on its way - Bang, down goes mr fox and out go his lights ( that little swine wont be eating anymore of our pheasant this year ). So all in all, what started out as an uncertain week, turned into quite a good 1. cheers Paul Pic of fox shot last night.
tikkamark
Excellent report paul really enjoyed reading that That's a lovely looking spot in front of your high seat Just out of interest do you have to change your zero every time you use your .243 for deer to allow for a heavier bullet or do you use the 75grn load for both fox and deer? Hi Mark - my rifle shoots the 75grn remmington accutips and the 95 grn Fedral Fusion bullets in virtually the same place at 100yrds ( for some strange reason), so i dont have to change zero
