Just to conclude,  chimney swept, new rope all round, multifuel burner painted black, room painted just failed on the glass.

I've tried oven cleaner,  wilco's barbecue cleaner,  white vinegar, brasso and even jiff. Never mind it will be rate 😉👍

Is the glass scratched at all ?

If not I'd try oven cleaner. It brings mine up nice. Avoid getting it on your hearth though.

Try this

wood ash (and make sure it is no coal or coke)

ball of newspaper damp the paper and dip into ash polish glass (small area

more paper more ash repeat on next bit

rinse glass when finished

I have tried that too but to no avail, I put it down to the stuff that I burn on it. If it was just pure logs that was burnt then I think it would be easy to clean.

Ok

new glass then and don’t burn rubbish on it once you have fitted it 😂😂😂

I'll keep the old one and burn 🔥 anything to keep us warm 🤣🤣🤣👍👍👍👍

Edited to say my multifuel burners favourite food is pallets, any pallet it's not fussy 😉

I've put new rope around the door and it's as stiff as stiff can be trying to shut it and opening it 😳😳😳😳😳

I have double checked the thickness at 12mm it's only to be hoped that when we've had a fire or two it loosens up. It seems uncomfortably tight at the moment 🤔

Oven cleaner is on the list that I've tried without any luck but thanks 👍👍😉😉

Probably damaged the glass by over fuelling. Soot on a bit of wet newspaper or a wet tea bag is as good as anything to clean the glass .
I would not personally use a aluminium kettle due to the well documented risks  but it probably won’t matter to many on PW 😂😂

I think the glass must be damaged with the stuff that I burn 🔥 saying that it's all free so I can put up with a smoky glass and a warm house.

Not heard about the dangers of an aluminium kettle 🙄 I will look it up.
