Cranfield
We insure with Churchill Insurance and every year when its renewal time, I shop around. Usually I can't beat them, or if I can, its by so little that its not worth changing. Last years premium was £365 and this year they wanted £386. I telephoned and asked why it had gone up, as I haven't claimed and got the usual load of flannel. The real answer was because loads of other people have claimed. Anyway, I went off and shopped around via the Internet, only going to "reputable" Companies that I have heard of. Saga offered the best like for like deal, with an annual premium of £281.40. I went back to Churchill and without hesitation they matched it, that represents almost a 30% reduction in premium. OK, I was pleased to be able to save £104.40, but annoyed that Churchill couldn't have offered me that premium in the first place. I understand the "retention of business" logic,. etc, etc, but its still irritating me.

ChrisNicholls
I always seem to do quite well by going to moneysupermarket.com saved loads there over the years. For home and contents I have found the AA to be good at the moment, arranged with Axa at the moment.
dunganick
ive had a similar situation (car insurance), due to an accident i decided to renew with tesco untill the liability of the accident was decided (made things simpler i though, plus they were competitive) a few weeks ago when it was sorted i asked them to amned my policy so that my no claims would be back to 1 year, fine, they offered me £500 back, this being half the difference between the internet price i had for my renewal, so i asked them to check, ok yes we missed £65 they came back with, still missing in the region of £400 i asked again. They simply said of course you cant expect the same rates as on the internet. So i asked if i cancelled now and then renewed with them on the internet i would save potentially alot of money, or as it works out not alot (as policy has been running 3 months) however would get an extra 3 months insurance for nothing. Yes she replied, however you would be set back 3 months on your no claims bonus. So basically im trapped paying over the odds for something and they wont tell me how much my policy is worth if i want to cancell it either. And i still dont have my excess back. Tip: dont have accidents, cars can be replaced, but thats about all you will ever get back out of the insurance company.
