Moderator Finish

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I have a Wildcat Predator 8. The finish is peeling/rubbing off on the main rear expansion tube of the moderator. It looks like a rubberised/bed-liner style textured finish. Was wondering if anyone knew what it was before I strip and paint it. Was thinking of using bed liner (polyurethane 2 pack finish) or a High temp black paint and baking it slightly to cure.

Any thoughts, precautions etc. I should know about?

ATB,

RyanMc

There's nothing wrong with my R10 mod, but I put a road bike innertube over it, looks good, it's protected and it doesn't shine

Thanks. What about heat, i do have sessions of 50 shots in a approximately a half hour and it does warm up a lot.

I hadn't considered that, mine is an air rifle?

I always apply self cling camo' tape in my moderators. It's easy to remove and doesn't leave any residue. Great for stopping light reflection too. I buy mine from Ali Express which is far cheaper that UK prices.

Yep, use exactly the same stuff. It is called cohesive tape and you can get a pattern very close to DPM.

Thanks to all for the responses. Thinking I'm going to strip the remaining finish off the expansion tube and High temp matte paint, bake it to cure. Then have a go with the cohesive tape in black. might help with heat mirage. It tends to get hot as I usually have limited time to practice, test loads or check zero and bang through the round fairly quick hence the heat.

The tape is also good if and when you are using a torch mounted lamp/IR.

👍 Will be getting some black tape ordered and see if it makes a difference for me.

It may work, but I would highly recommend the self cling 'bandage' type tape. It also helps prevent knocks and dings on the moderator.
