I emailed the above regarding booking a day there to shoot my .308 out to 1000 yards. The director, Mr Andrew Venables, replied back the very next day, with available dates etc. I mentioned to him that at present, I am using 168gr bullets, but only out to 400 yards. He replied that 168gr are 'okay' out to 600 yards, and went on to explain that 175gr bullets would be better suited. I am hoping to book a day there with him in August, and my thanks are extended to him for taking the time out to explain about different bullet weights etc.

Steve look at Gardners rifle range. I've had a couple of days at WMS and didn't get anything ftom it spart from an empty wallet. I don't know what your expectations are. Regards to the additional 7 grains I'll reserve my comments on an open forum. If he's going to recommend any bullet for long range out to 1k + I'd recommend the Berger 185 juggernaut it's one of very few that stays stable into transonic stage.

I've been out to 1.2k with 140s. So thake from that what you will.

Hi mate. Yes, it's not cheap to say the least. I wasn't expecting much to be honest, I just wanted somewhere to go to 'reach out further' with my .308. My local range is 600 yards, and on one of my permissions, I can shoot out to 400 yards if I wanted too. He mentioned a few heavier and better BC bullets. I've reloaded a few 100 x 168gr cartridges so far, but might try a heavier one just to see what they would be like. Thanks for the reply and recommendation on the Berger ones.

It's a hell of a lot cheaper, I agree, but being that I'm in Mid Glamorgan, Carlisle is a long way off for me.

Have you tried ProShoot in Llanbradach? Some of the guys there are into long range target work.

Yes, I'm actually a member there, although because I work weekends, I haven't been up there for many months. There's a 600 yard range there, and smaller ones.
