DIY pheasant shoot near Skipton has one space for a gun with working dog

Recommended Posts

There is 1 remaining space in our small syndicate for a full gun with a working dog. The shoot is approx. 15 minutes from Skipton and covers just over 1000 acres of hilly ground. Subs are £550 a season (plus a possible top up depending on wheat prices) with 10 guns shooting. The format is either mini driven (small beaters contribution required) or rough/walked-up. We put 300 poults down and shoot 11 small relaxed days. As well as pheasants we do see plenty of woodcock as well as the odd partridge and duck.

A reasonable level of fitness is required as there is fair bit of walking up and down hills required. Also guns should be willing to help out on work days and with feeding duties.

Don't know if you have filled your space but it amazes me how it seems there are few takers for this type of opportunity, I remember back in 1981 I replied (by letter) to an ad in the paper for something very similar to your shoot, I was lucky and was accepted, on meeting the shoot captain he told me he had 40 letters, how things have changed.

Mind you, you may have had 50 PM’s...:)

It work out around £50 a day , seem a cheap day out if you ask me , a day out in the fresh air and a chance to work your dog if you have one, plus the opportunity of a few shots at the long tails , what more would you want , it must cost close to that for a round of clays on some of the upmarket clay grounds, we now have a few small rough shooting days with guys who think of nothing in travelling overnight from Holland , I bet they would love the chance to take part in the above sort of days , they spend a sight more on that just to get over here and time they have bought the day and travelled back to Holland it would have set them back a fair bit of folding money .   MM

A bit like yourself I started out by replying to an advert in shooting times.  Things have changed since.

No interest as yet. I suspect that Facebook may generate more interest but I wanted to give PW members a chance first.

You see it exactly the same way as me. £50 for a day in the country with a few mates. Enjoy watching the dogs work and a few bangs along the way.
