This is hanging from an RSJ in a garage we're demolishing, and will probably need a new home very soon.

Could anyone tell me anything about it please ? And an approximate value would be good too 👍 😇😆

As ever,,,, go easy on me please 🙏 🙂

on the 3rd pic (i think) are some of the helical gears broke....?

If you're talking about at the 11 o'clock position, then it certainly looks like it, but there are so many cobwebs on it I couldn't say for certain. I'll take a closer look next time I'm on site 😉

Would you have any further information about it ?

This is a purpose built large double garage that the previous house owner built at the top of the garden. It has a pit for working underneath cars. The current owners bought the house 20 years ago, and have only used the garage for storage of 'junk'  🫢,  but also including the odd good item. It is now being demolished because of heave/subsidence, through an insurance claim. They have no interest in the hoist, but may do if it has any value, which I'm doubting 🤔 Just thought I'd find out any info before it 'disappeared' 😉

We had a very similar one fitted to a swinging arm crane in work, to lift 6mt lengths x 120mm chrome rods into the bandsaw for cutting, before machining into hydraulic rods for rams.

It was years old but always passed it’s yearly inspection.and well made.

Hello, That reminds me of the gear we had when i started working in an old Engineering Works as apprentice Welder🤔 , Have you researched the area JKD for old Companies about your first post??

A Google search points to it being quite a popular make. Not sure of its 'actual' condition yet 🤔

it would be worth saving it.....sand blasting it and painting it....couldnt bear to see something like that go to the scrappy

That's what I was thinking,,,,, clean it, metal wax [?] it,,,, would make a proper feature for someone, I'm sure 👍

As to value, it may just be worth the effort to weigh in at the scrapyard.

That's one option 😉

  • 4 weeks later...

Update......

Fortunately, the owner decided that he didn't want it,,,, "so, throw it away" he said. In the back of the van it went 😃

UNfortunately, my boss visited site to speak with the policy holder, who said to my boss that " all things kept to one side can now be thrown away". Boss says to me,,,,

"Great, I can use that at my house,,,, got an idea for it that might work". 🙄🤬🤬🤬

Hopefully his idea won't work !!! 😆

It's all intact, no breakages or damage anywhere. Just very rusty, but no real corrosion.
