remytherussell
Saw an amazing thing yesterday. Whilst playing golf with some friends, on the side of the fairway on one hole sat a hare. It was intentely watching up into a blackthorn tree. Suddenly a crow swoop down to land at the bottom of a laurel hedge. The hare, without a moments hesitation, launched itself at the crow and chased it right across the fairway and into a small copse. Content that the bird had been chased far enough away the hare ran back and resumed it's position near the laurel. It was obvious that it had a set with young in it and was standing guard. We observed the "chase" several times but finally had to move on with our game. Other groups on the course witnessed the same thing as they came round the course and mentioned it in the clubhouse afterwards. RTR.
lurcherboy
I would have liked to seen 'hartley' tearing at the crow. You was lucky to witness such scene. :( LB
Fisherman Mike
Remy, I have seen this also myself only the once. This occassion there were two crows who had obviously found a set and had infact dragged what was a new born leveret out of it and were busy pulling it apart. The parent Hare, I dont know if it was a male or female, went absolutely ballistic. I didnt know they did this!!
remytherussell
Saw the same hare (I presume, as I have only ever seen the one pair on the course) yesterday in another location about 300 yards away. Could it be that they had moved the set to try and fool the crows. He/she was again "on guard". Out again tomorrow and will look to see where they are this time. (Yes I do play a lot of golf, not much shooting this time of year. It,s a good discipline to help with keeping a steady stance, judging distances etc.) RTR
