Joe180
I have a beretta EELL 30” sporter I have never liked the palm swell on it due to having small hands,my question is could it be removed and re chequered ,would this de value it,and would it weaken the stock. Scully
I would say: Yes. Yes. Not in my opinion, and I can’t think why it would. 🙂
mpmilo
Yes, Had mine done on my 694, The Stocker that did it had to redo both sides with new chequering as it was laser chequered and obviously after removing palm swell it had to be hand chequered. You wouldnt know it had been done to be fair. He did say he had done a lot on Prosports as the palm swell is long rather than fitting in the palm, causing your hand to grip the stock at an unnatural angle if you have shorter fingers. As for de valueing it, I part ex d mine with no problem at all. I think it may be down to the quality of the job. Mine copied the original outer pattern on the 694 and filled in the middle. JohnfromUK
Had my S57EL Beretta done about 30 or 40 years ago - same reason as you, small hands; could it be removed. Yes - as above mine was done and re chequered. Yes - as above mine was done would this de value it - no idea. Its worth what someone will pay. Some will like it taken off, others won't. and would it weaken the stock. In theory any wood removal will weaken it, but it's not an issue as the actual 'palm swell' bit is not highly stressed I also had mine stripped of 'varnish/high gloss lacquered type' finish and oil finished at the sale time Edited January 12 by JohnfromUK
