By marriage, I am related to a sizeable chunk of the Liverpool population. At one wedding, one of them said half the door staff in Liverpool were relatives. Been to many weddings, but also quite a few funerals. At the majority, You'll never walk alone, by Gerry and the Pacemakers was played. Almost guaranteed to bring a tear to any eye. Although I was never a fan of Gerry Marsden in his heyday, I saw him a few times in later years. Excellent live act, albeit the Pacemakers - Freddy Marsden, Les Chadwick and Les Maguire were long gone from the group. Gordon, this is very true. Back in the day, Liverpool had several families that would be related in some way. A few friends and I were once invited to a house party by the Liverpool boxer John Conteh, he used to frequent our rural pub occassionaly, and was very sociable. At the party which was huge, there were extensive families all related in some close or distant lineage. The party lasted about 3 days, that was back in the early eighties. It may be the place that I go to for my 'very last warm'. I am hoping that I have been a good boy, and after being put in the toaster that I am not sent to a 'warmer place'. Westley, long may your pipework warm the earthly journey. Thank you for that. My parents ashes are there too. I was at Southport crem last year, at a shooting man's cremation. During a quiet part of the service, the sound of pinks going overhead outside, could be heard. That raised several smiles among the congregation. The wifes Mother and Father were cremated and she also wants to be cremated. So I asked her where she wants her ashes to go. She replied that she wanted them to be scattered on a warm beach somewhere. But since then she has had a change of mind and she wants some scattered on a local beach around a bench seat that we have sat on looking out to sea when we have been out walking the dogs. Then some of the ashes to be put into a hole drilled into my headstone. Me, I can't bear the thought of being burnt to nothing. I have burnt myself either welding or on machinery and know what its like. I hope to be planted in with either my mother or father or even my grandfather and grandmother. To be arranged. The music, I've thought about it and settled and then thought about it again and again. That is another thread in itself for those who settle for cremation , Where do you want your ashes scattered ? , When my wife passed away her wishes was some of them scattered along the seafront at Cromer where we used to sit and have our fish and chips while watching the world and the boats out at sea go by , this I honoured a few months after and I still sit on the same bench when I go up there myself on a day out , the rest are at the bottom of my back garden amongst all the flowers we planted over the years , with myself I would like half of mine to go along side of my wife in our back garden and the rest can be scattered up the top end of our estuary where I have spent a great deal of my life and who knows , I might meet up with some of the ole fowlers I haven't seen for a few years , I would have quite a bit to tell em MM

I do like the grounds at Southport Crem. 2 minutes ago, marsh man said: That is another thread in itself for those who settle for cremation , Where do you want your ashes scattered ? , When my wife passed away her wishes was some of them scattered along the seafront at Cromer where we used to sit and have our fish and chips while watching the world and the boats out at sea go by , this I honoured a few months after and I still sit on the same bench when I go up there myself on a day out , the rest are at the bottom of my back garden amongst all the flowers we planted over the years , with myself I would like half of mine to go along side of my wife in our back garden and the rest can be scattered up the top end of our estuary where I have spent a great deal of my life and who knows , I might meet up with some of the ole fowlers I haven't seen for a few years , I would have quite a bit to tell em MM That is lovely that MM.
