Dunkield
It has been mentioned a couple of time on here, we have a day booked in early January. So, as we have never tried it before does anyone have any tips to share? The water is, apparently about 7-8 foot deep, so although fly fishing will be the preferred method, I am not ruling out float fishing if that doesn't work. I knocked up some heavily weighted flies last night, and added pink into the mix, as I led to believe that is the killing colour for them. jimdfish
trot maggots on the pin at that depth. When you catch one smell it, they smell of cucumbers!! Jim
casts_by_fly
stuart, When we went last month, sight nymphing was the ticket. Walk the bank until you spot some fish and cast nymphs to them. That's how we caught all of our fish. We were fly fishing, so before the trip I tied up a bunch of different patterns, some with pinks and oranges, some natural. The fly of the day for me was a killer bug, i.e. a creme maggot imitation. A real maggot drifted under a small float would have caught a lot of fish. All of my flies were weighted with .020" lead or similar and I was still using a shot or two in places. This weekend we are on a smaller stretch so I'm still weighting flies but I doubt I'll need the shot. Thanks Rick
henry d
I liked using a team of 2 weighted nymphs, mainly PTN`s, with a REALLY bushy almost mayfly dry on a dropper to suit the depth and use this as a "float" for upstream nymphing. Takes were either bobs or full blown disappearance acts !
