grasshopper
Well i won a charity raffle prize...3 days in Wales, shooting with Tulky and Magman. And what a time i had..... Paul met me at the hotel, checked in,got changed and straight out(was to be like this the whole trip ) Dropped my .243 off to be screw cut and moderated(wildcat predator 8)by Terry,a fella who really knows his stuff and can shoot a bit too,Saw a target with 500yd grouping on it :o Next we went to meet the gamekeeper, had a coffee and a chat..came away with some free ammo and a raiser pad for my stock...i like wales After checking the zero on my .22 250(was ok) and some tea at Pauls,it was off to meet Magman to try for some fox on his permission. Paul lamped a fox in the 1st field as soon as we got out of the motors but it sat behind a hedge with no shot available.Never saw it again and saw no more at this part of Rob,s land. Was told they had never failed to get a shot whilst lamping here before(ha ha jinksy Jeff) We moved to the other side of this farm where they don,t see fox usually, but the farmer had and they had left them untill i came..how kind I picked 1 up in front of a copse with the NV,but it was having none of it. I was sent down the field to check behind the wood whilst they sheltered behind a wagon ... hmmm just got that anyway 5 mins later i picks up 2 bright eyes about 250yds away coming down the hedge towards the copse and us.Paul and Rob keep tabs on it whilst i set up the rifle. At this point, i ask who wants to shoot it,as i,ve used NV before, but they both bottle it Nah,they,re just kind enough to let me.It disapears into a corner of the field out of sight so we wait, with a few squeaks to encourage it forward. There is a tree on the corner about 80 yds away,so i reset the parrallax for this, detach the NV and wait...sure enough here comes the fox,re-attach and follow, the fox stops to sniff the hedge, turns side on and crack thump.Nice vixen. Head home after getting my 1st Chesire fox as up early for the shoot next morn. Thoroughly good day this was,as i dropped a left and right duck, reloaded and dropped another 1 duck with next shot.Never shot a duck or had a left/right on anything but crow and pigeon so was well chuffed. Magman was in the birds big time with a l/r of his own and 2 more duck + a pheasant, including 1 duck that nearly landed on me The day went well with me and Rob in among them on the next drive, mostly partridge, but 2 pheasant over us whilst we were both reloading I had 2 quiet stands...mainly because Rob poached a Partridge coming my way The last stand was awsome, with lots of Partridge with the wind speeding them up even more, resulting in me dropping 1 after giving it about 11ft lead..was 2nd barrel though had 3 and shared 1 with Rob off this stand. Straight from there to pick up my .243 and drop off my .22 250 for a re-crown.Some tea and off out lamping(Terry had zeroed my gun in ) Picked out a fox lying in a field about 170yds away, only the head to see, so rested on a post,x between the eyes and heard that lovely thump. Saw another next to the Huntmasters house but couldn,t shoot this even though it just stood there at 75yds Drove around the estate and picked up another 1 quite a way out,it wouldn,t call so switched to white light to shoot as it was well out,but it was off as soon as the white light hit it(we were using red filter)but another was coming along the field below us trying to wind us.It stopped about 160yds out and again thump 2 Welsh fox but no camera as i,d left it in my room Got an invite to go Fallow stalking the next morn so delayed my journey home and accepted readily. Was taken up on to the hill at 1st light, got onto a few but always some trees or branches covering the vitals thats stalking. My guide John was determined to get me a shot and we covered a lot of ground before he pointed out a Pricket in the trees below, onto the bipod and i got my 1st Fallow Got some funny looks from wagon drivers coming up the M6 with that in the back of my pick up Just like to once again thank Paul, and his mates for a fantastic time Thanks to magman for taking me on his permission and DM and Jonjrms for the raffle that made it possible GH

tulkyuk
Excellent write up and pics lads sounds like you had a great few days shooting jeff What happened to the 22-250 that you had to re-crown it??If any of you lot want to come over to ireland one day for some shooting your more than welcome  he had gun recrowed because when he was showing a friend of me the gun, we saw the original crown was pitted and not very good ( poor job by original gunsmith) so we suggested as he was already having the 243 screwcut, he should ask if the guy would re-thread and crown his 22-250. I would love to come over ther one day mate and would be happy to return the favour

grasshopper
Thanks for the replys fellas Had a fantstic time in Wales, every one was so friendly and helpful...learnt a few things about rifles that will certainly help me  Paul is right,Terry made such a good job screw cutting my .243,that i had no hesitation in getting the .22 250 done. To tidy my rifle up after removing the fore sight,he chopped 3 inches of the barrel, and i liked it so much,i asked him to do the same to my .22 250. He also cleaned up the stock to make sure that it was fully free floating(.243 was ok but .22 250 was toching at the point)and then set the actions on a thin strip of alloy to firmly secure them...he said he would not give a gun back knowing it needed something doing to it!! And he only charged £45 a rifle.....beat that i was more than happy! Mark be careful what you offer,as i will take you up on it  GH
