I have acquired a larsan trap for a few weeks ans was wondering if the trap should be set up so that it is sprung as the magpie goes in or as it tries to fly out? Anybody got any good baits to try out, have broken an egg in there for now.

Cheers

Do a search on the forum for Larsen Traps, you will find that they work most efficiently during early spring with a call bird.

Hi Gibby- you want to set the perch fairly lightly. The principle is, magpies won't drop to the floor of the trap but instead hop on the perch, this weight causes the two bits of wood comprising the perch to fall, he drops to the flop and the door swings shut above him.
