You're a lucky lad getting hold of one of those, they're great bits of kit. My first shot with a real rifle was firing one, and if I remember correctly it kicked like a mule and I couldn't see for smoke for a good few seconds! A guy at my club shoots with one, next time I see him I'll pick his brains for details. I think brass is easily available from the right places and the bullets are easy to cast. I've been told it's just like an over sized .38spl to reload so fairly simple. It seems that a 20cm group at 50 yards is about average so nothing too special. What condition is the bore in?

dont worry HD, if its in firable condition, its deffo coming, no doubt snotty with bring something on the basis of a cannon lol.

thanks for the info on that FC, at only 2.95 a bullet thats fairly steep, but considering that without it being on a license(which is legal for this firearm), i can only use it once a year, at that price it covers the fun ill have lol.

if i was to homeload it, how much do u think it would cost per cartridge and also for the equipment needed.

njc110381 i will check the bore when i get home tomorrow( at aunts at the moment). considering the rifle is from 1863( says so on the side lol) that aint a bad grouping.

the link doesnt seem to be working.

if i can get enough cartridges to reload etc. i will deffo bring it to bisley 08.

been researching a bit, it is possible to reload brass 24guage shotgun cartridges that have been trimmed down by about half an inch. anyone know where i could get some of these, and how much they will cost.

cheers

The link is working for me, don't know what's going on there :good:

You're looking at (US) $56 for 20 cases, $143 for a three die set and $65 for the bullet mould (choice of 7 shapes!). Once converted to £ that's not too painful seeing as you only need to do it once. I've e-mailed another contact of mine on the subject of brass and moulds. Hopefully he can help as he's a little closer to home :good:

I think the dies are going to be the main concern. I've been searching around the old antiques sites for a mould, but haven't seen anything cheap yet. I remember when I was looking into them about a year ago I found a load of old plier type bullet moulds for under £5 on an old junk site. I can't remember the name of it but if you could get hold of a couple that way you could save a few quid. Lee do a die set for it, but I doubt they come up second hand often.

Take a look at the gun you have though, it's great! I've wanted one since I fired one on a clay shoot when I was a lad but have never been able to justify the cost of the actual rifle. Whatever happens take good care of the gun, you don't have to use it right now. Just buy bits and pieces for it as you find them, and eventually you'll have the full kit. With some luck it may not take that long to find what you need. If I run into anything that's goiung cheap I'll grab it for you and pass it on :good:
