Teal
In just one raid as you will read here the police have seized masses of illegal guns from criminals, I know I'm preaching to the converted by perhaps the politicans will see sense this time, on second thoughts maybe not http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/3853995.stm
jimdfish
there was a story in todays Times about the amount of people trying to enter Wimbledon carrying offensive weapons. Everyone was being searched due to the increased terrorist threat. I was amazed to read that several people were found to be in possession of CS sprays ( a Firearm ) and just had it consfiscated and were then allowed in to watch the match. What is going on? 5 years for an unlicenced brocock and a tut tut for mace. Feeling confused and politically angry j imDfish
eugene molloy
Point 1 We will never get the real figures on these so called "firearms", just as the recent amnesty figures were fudged, so will these be to make Plod look good. Point 2 Follows from the above; replicas are counted as firearms in these instances, so are air guns and pepper sprays, all makes the numbers look good. Note the "samurai sword"; it's not unlawful to posess a sword. Point 3 People are "carrying" because the Police have lost control of the streets. Point 4 Only simpletons believe what the Home Office and Police say about firearms and criminality, and I ain't simple. Eug
the last engineer
if i may ask you guys ,the law as i now beleive it is no handguns period ,or are black powder handguns still allowed in the uk and how does the law relate to the use of bows ,long/compound /cross ?? are they licenced also im just curious to see how it differs from here in canada ?? thanks, martin
eugene molloy
Martin, Black powder handguns are still legal, and the sport is flourishing. Many pistol shooters turned to BP after the handgun ban. Now you have to sit down for the next bit.....bowhunting is unlawful in the UK. Yupp, in the land of Robin Hood you can't shoot deer (or any living creature) with a bow! Archery as a target sport is quite popular, and so far as I'm aware there are no certification requirements. Obviously in Common Law there will be a duty to behave reasonably. Regards Eug
leon
TLE, All handguns are not band here you can still own them on a section 5 if you have the correct reasons and they have to be kept at the club where they are used at. Leon
squintshot
Further to Leons comment I believe there has been a recent case where a stalker was given back his right to carry a pistol for the dispatch of deer, from the article I took it he wasn't the only one too hold a pistol for this reason. Vulcha
There was an article in Airgun world about these "raids". There was a picture of a gamo 45 and another gamo pistol, 3 tins of gamo bb's and 9 co2 capsuales. The police descrided them as "lethal"
digger
i have the dubious pleasure of living in croydon famous for being a horrible place and more recently scumbags rioting after football matches. my local pub is five minutes walk away and i have seen handguns bandied around on three occasions, all serious enough for me to think that they were real guns.police response was to wait for an armed unit by which time the gun wavers were long gone. two men were murdered locally with a legally held shotgun (a very rare event) and the next day the police were knocking on my door checking my shotgun licence. i think there are two morals; we are an easy target as we are honest never live in a city to those of you who enjoy dark nights, uninterupted views, the dawn chorus and the solitude of being alone in the countryside ? i am jealous
