I've noticed that the amount of people using them at my shoot has increased ten fold.

I've been to lot of shoots and it seems as long as the gun is proven to be safe by either using a flag or keeping it sleeved no one seems to be bothered.

I've even read in Sporting gun of some people taking them to a driven shoot.

Which certainly seems to be a step in the right direction.

At the end of the day a guns a gun. As long as it's handled responsibly and safely there's never a problem!!

Not really the same thing is it, at a clay shoot there is often 80 to 100+ shooters walking about, where as when you are out with your rifle you are probally on your own,! I shoot 100 registered every week, with a auto but I put it into the the slip between stands, the guys you encounter with a flag hanging out of the breech, are usually not carrying a slip to put their gun in between stands, and are just trying to show fellow shooters that the breech is open and safe. Cheers.

What about gun clubs and ranges, loads of people there just like clay grounds too. If you don't trust someone don't shoot with them

Fullbore, the original question was asked if a semi auto 12 bore was ok to use on a clay ground, I dont really understand how we now have a couple of questions been asked about rifles?as this is the clay shooting section I think rifle questions should be in the fullbore rifle section

I wouldn't feel the need to explain myself, if I used a semi-auto for clays. Plenty of blokes use them at Manchester and I use a Mossberg pump occasionally, when I get bored with my O/U :good: The pump gets a few looks from the occasional sneering ****, but they soon shut up when I shoot, becaiuse I usually hit more than them

The only time you need to worry about keeping up appearances is in some forms of game shooting. I believe if you got an invite to go and have a pop at a few partridges, it's not the done thing to stroll up waving a semi auto, or God forbid, a pump action ???

Stigma comes from trap shooters who don't like carts spitting out of the gun beside them as the psyc up for their shot. Same issue in Compak, sportrap etc - but skeet and std sporting clays there should not be any issue.

Use a flag in / out of the slip. Bolt latched back while waiting in a squad. Carry gun vertically, breech open and facing away from you.

I didnt pose a question about rifles, I am sick of the "snobbery" surrounding guns and you cant shoot here because you have a type of gun I dont like and I they hide their dislike behind a guise of safety

What I said was, I have never been told that someone didnt like my rifle on the range because thay couldnt see it broken and therefore unloaded so by that same premise it should be quite all right to go clay shooting with your semi. I have an Extrema as well by the way and the local clay club dont like it because I have a sling on it. My point is, if someone is dangerous educate them as to why and if they dont or won't learn get rid of em. Guns are not dangerous they are inanimate, but I would not be in the area shooting with anyone if they made me feel unsafe
