taz24
The newspapers today are suggesting contaminated fuel ( possibly with water ) and the engines failed 2 miles from the runway. Who wants to bet how long it will be before the "Islamic Terrorists" propaganda starts ? Sugar in your fuel tanks eh!! Works every time. taz. fullbore
I've a mate in maintenance and he's saying ignore eye witness reports, from where they were the plane dropped about 200 feet very fast on its approach, one of their storemen had to be decontaminated after being covered in fuel so that would sort of say it had some on board, so it would seem there may be more to this than has come out so far And if this same mate told you he had seen a big cat, would you believe him on that subject without question as you have on this? SPARKIE
will see what happens if the engines come back to us for investigation but both engines losing power doesnt happen it will be a fault else where and as for birdstrikes the engines are tested by fireing birds into them they have to be able to run and contain the blades and debris before they get air worthy certificate as ya can see the trent 800 engines have a kevlar wrap round the fan case to help contain the debris its barely damaged
pin
Wasn't a bird strike, whilst the engines have to contain the fan blades etc it does break them quite a lot and standard procedure is to shut down the engine, declare an emergency and land as soon as possible. Big_Sam
Well looks like it could still be a fuel problem, if it happend very quickly their might not be enough time to switch tanks/pumps etc.
SPARKIE
no doubt they will be draining the fuel from the engines to see whats in there
