Isuzu Rodeo

Just curious if anyone has any experience with one of these, considering changing the farm defender (97 P reg ) for one March 1st, have looked at the Navara and L200 but the Isuzu wins out on towing capacity (3tonne) and also slightly cheaper and better equipped. Went to Landrover yesterday for price on new defender, but think it's out of running, still no airbags, aircon, abs which of course is all standard on the jap pickups, plus no middle seat now because of EU regulations :good: I know what some will say,it's still a Landrover at the end of the day but can't justify the extra 2 grand over the Isuzu, although the landie does have 3.5 tonne towing which is handy when there's 4 finished beef cattle in trailor. A few farmers have changed there defenders for Isuzus round here lately so they must be doing something right!

My dad has a farm contractor buddy who has one. He loves it and so does my dad. My old man really wanted to chop his SWB trooper commercial in for one, but does so few miles in it, it is not worth it.

Edited for spelling.

If your primary use is towing then id go for a swb vehicle. I have a navara and find find the length and very wide turning circle a real pain, it handles more like a cruise liner than a truck and is even beaten on turning circle by a lwb mk6 transit

The best tow vehicle ive ever used was an A reg merc Gwagon, still drove like new and a very good turning circle and loads of pull.If you do want a double cab then id seriusly consider a hilux.

My next truck will probably be the new discovery 3 comercial on the basis of top speed, turning circle and refinment ie aircon although the price is eyewatering in comparison to say a hilux.

Can just imagine what the old man would say if I suggested Disco 3 :good: Popped to see a Hi-lux this morning, only tows 2.2 and is pricier than the Isuzu, nice looking vehicle mind. I appreciate what your saying about turning circle but we only tow couple of times a week so hopefully won't be big issue

I thought the L200 was the class leader on these? - It has won several awards.

They might not have the same towing capability as the Rodeo and Landy, but you dismissed the landy for comfort, which is where the new L200 is very good IMO

You can get a lot of equipment and accessories for them too, thought they can come pretty loaded?

Have you looked at the hilux too?

The landie truck cab was dismissed for being to expensive more than anything and the fact that unlike our current defender, it only has 2 seats now, there's 3 of us on the farm and ok, most of the time 1 of us can just jump in the back for journeys round the farm but when the 3 of us need to go somewhere further I'll be ******** if I'm freezing my rocks off in the back(being the youngest it would prob be me in there  ).Compared to our P reg one it also seemed very cramped, they've done something different with the dashboard design and both myself and brothers knee's were a tight squeeze under the steering wheel. We went to see the L200 again this morning aswell as the Hilux, very unhelpfull to point of being rude in Toyota (ok we were in our work gear)so ****** them. The opposite in Mitsubishi, great vehicle, but the bottom line is Isuzu are offering a much better deal and a lot more for our old landie (although might buy this off farm myself yet, not that the old man will give me any better deal than anyone else :good: )
