  1. Just my own opinion, but I probably wouldn't buy a second hand laptop. In my experience, laptops get slung around, picked up, put down, opened, closed, charged up, run down and so on. This takes its toll on the components. Plus a new laptop can be had for so little now, why take the risk. As mentioned, that are all much of a muchness. Go and take a look at some in the shops. Dont buy the shiney one that looks neat on the web as in the flesh all the reflective surfaces can be very distracting when in use. Go for plenty of RAM regardless, a graphics card if you want to play games, a large disk if you have lots of photos, music and "media" as my mate calls it (porn).

Totally agree. I have it a little bit with my old man. Never wants to come out shooting. I just head off on my own and do my own thing. The moment he gets wind he gets jealous and wants in. Perhaps try and find a few other guys to shoot with and you may soon find your friend wants to get involved a bit more and not be left out. Best of luck.

Haha.... I just wish John would understand.... actually, funny you should say that. My mate does go by the same name!
  4. Avoid cortisone injections if you can. I had some inflamation in a tendon around my elbow from over training in the gym. It was pretty bad and almost stopped me driving. I was desperate for it to go and really considered the injections, but after investigating it further I decided against it. They can cause a lot of problems further down the line. I went with some advice I read on the net - crazy I know, fixing ones self with advice from some nutter sat there typing in his bedroom! I took fish oil tablets 3 times a day with every meal. I drink a lot of water a day anyway, but upped this to about 7 litres of water a day. I cut red meat out of my diet and started exercising it gently again at the gym. Within a weak or so the difference was amazing. What did it? Who knows, but perhaps worth a go.

I have a mate that is pretty persuasive. I have been pushed into hobbies in the past by him, I went along with it, enjoyed it for a bit, then left it behind. This clearly annoyed him. He still does it now, but I have got better a dealing with it. We get on great, but he just doesn't realise quite how much of a bully he can be. I have tried to explain this, but he just doesnt get it. Anyway, just thought I would give you the picture from the other side of the fence.

    GOUT ?

The doc thought I might have gout when I was 21!! A healthy, fit, 21 year old, at the gym 4 times a week, hardly drank and not a fan of cheese. It was at that point I lost all faith in docs! He sent me for blood tests and everything. It is just an old sporting injury, I treid to tell him this as all it needed was an x-ray.
  7. I do not bother with second hand car dealers anymore. I look to buy privately as I far prefer dealing with real people. Sadly this can limit the car choice and you except you either need to be less fussy on the make and model or more flexible on price.
  8. Do you host with them? I have used a combination of hosting sites on my own server behind a business DSL, paid hosting, free hosting bundled with ISPs etc. and generally find that if the site is in the small to medium category, written half decently and not swelling with graphics that have not been optimised for the web, speed is very rarely an issue.
  9. Working again now, looks like the html file had just become corrupt when uploading. The joy of computers!
  10. Not sure if you have already registered the domain name you want, but I run a little business on the side that deals in domain registrations, website creation and hosting and email forwarding. It is a fully managed service and really just aimed at basic computer users that run a small business or are self employed. Those customers seem to love the service, but you could be a bit more advanced and want greater flexability, but you might find it of interest. http://whitegem.co.uk If not, I use: www.123-reg.co.uk
  11. Hey Stuart, thanks for the response. The only think I can think of is nipping down the M40 to West London Sporting Targets. I am more than happy to go somewere on the 28th, but wanted to take the old man and likes it when things are less busy, so thought something on a week day would be better. Will keep an ear to the ground.
  12. Hi all, First post in a while as have been snowed under at work and doing the house up. Having not been shooting since September time (cannot believe it is that long) I am planning to use the Christmas break with the old man and see if I can hit anything. I was wondering if anyone might have any recomendations for somewhere to shoot in the Berkshire area on the 24th December this week? Thanks, Adam
  13. Would agree with that. Nice setup, not too far from me. Everyone seemed helpful and pleasent. The girl dishing out the cards put me with a nice chap and his son, who like me were just interested in a bit of a practice.
  14. Thanks Peter, Think I am goign to head to Prestwood.
  15. Last minute I know, but have not been shooting for months have be stuck doing DIY. Really wanted to get out this morning, but have leart the 2 most local shoots are not on today. Any suggestions last minute of where I could head to? Thanks, Adam
  16. Thanks all for the helpfull replies. sbald thanks for pointing that out, it was something I was not aware of. Where do I stand shooting them in flight with the SG in one of my dads fields? I have since done some more reading and had come to the conclusion that perhaps a pistol was not the best option. It was the hw45 I was looking at, but was not sure what accuracy was like. I will do some more research before getting the credit card out. I have not actually seen any rats yet, but pretty sure I have some in my garage. I was thinking about magpies as we seem to be overun with them where I am and they are a blooming nuisance, especially at this time of year. I will wait out for some rats in the garage or garden and wait till I see one so I know what I am up against and at what distance before purchase anything. Once again, thanks all.
  17. Hi all, have done a few searches, but could not find the info I want. I am looking for an air pistol for close range vermin control in the garden and garage, mainly rats and magpies. Garden is not that large, and the 12g could be seen as too much gun for the job. I think a pistol would be best as I dont not want to raise concerns for neighbours by waving a long barrel out the windows etc. but open to suggestions. Not sure whether to go new or second hand with this, but want something powerfull and accurate enough to kill the above mentioned. I guess maximum range I need is about 15m. Can an air pistol kill and be accurate at this range. Also, what about scopes? Am I best sticking with stock sights, or putting a small scope on there, or possible a red dot or laser? I dont care if I am regarded as whimping out by using a scope or sight at such close range, just want to kill the vermin as quickly and easily as possible. If you have anything for sale that might suite feel free to PM me. Thanks, Adam
  18. Bob, your right! I have opened my eyes and can now see my gun listed under Table 1. Sorry all for wasting your time, must have been all the plaster dust in my eyes and power tools ringing in my ears that caused me to loose the plot! For the record, Shirley said she would send everything off for me and printed out a transfer form which I signed. I did double check with her at the time that there was absolutely nothing I needed to do, and she confirmed this. Turns out she was telling the truth. Sorry OGC for ever doubting you.
  19. Hi all, it has been a long time witout a post from me, but as you may guess from the title, we finally moved house. My question relates to my SGC and the change of address. I advised my local FEO I was moving and he told me to write to the issuing Force HQ and inform them of the move. I did this and a week or so later they sent a new SGC with the address ammended. They also included a form to complete relating to security at the property and where the gun was stored ect. The strange thing is there was nothing listed under the Shot guns Transferred section. I only have one gun which was purchased from a FRO, The Oxford Gun Company. When I bought it, Shirely said she would sent all the paperwork off as they in the same issuing force and blokes always forget to do that sort of thing. Should I expect to see my gun listed in this section on the new license? Do I need to complete it myself? Do I assume, the force have not been notified of the transfer, and complete a transfer form and send it back? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Adam
  20. Don't worry about the wood, it is how you shoot with it that counts! I doubt the wood on a Silver Pigeon could ever be described as poor, just not as good as Pigs of a better grade, but they would not make you shoot any better.

    so bored

Sorry all, but spent the last 2 and half days in Oslo working and have worked about 40 hours out of that time. For anyone that is not aware, Norway has the highest suicide rate in the world... this is my third visit here and I am under no illusion why. This place is hideous. My colleague watched a Rage Rover get stolen in broad daylight yesterday lunchtime. There are hookers out the back of our office, drug dealers out the front... we saw people dealing drugs in the middle of the central station this afternoon. We got followed last night by a chap that had his eye on our laptop bags. Have only seen 2 coppers since we have been here! We looked into it and the crime rate is 4 times higher than New York, 90 crimes in every 1000 people per year. It is hell, looking forward to coming home tomorrow. Night all.
  22. My FEO suggested he would be perfectly happy for me to store up to 5 guns in my 3 gun cabinet by top and tailing them. He suggested this, I did not ask. I guess it may depend on your FEO.
  23. I managed to set a new personal best today. After a few really bad weekends, it seems I have some form back. Shot a 33 ex 50 at my local. Well done everyone else, always nice to read what others have been shooting at and how they scored.
  24. I just use Excel to keep a track of my presonal achievements.... just finished updating it with todays results. The wife thinks I am so sad.... It it like a ritual... clean gun, then update scores.
