The one I have (which was admittedly £30) has a welded construction with a strong door, heavy guage steel, 2 big locking bolts, bolted to a block wall, you'd have to be a very determined thief to get into it, and this £11 version looks very similar, It's better than leaving ammo and shooting kit lying about.

i bought one of those when applying for my fac to keep bullets in

when feo came to inspect it he would not pass it and i asked him why it was well made and good guage steel

his reply was they were to easy to break into

he said all you would need to do is remove the flap for where the manual key over ride is and force a screwdriver into the lock and turn and it would open or it would push the lock right through just like what the toe rags do when breaking in to cars

so i would not recomend using one of these when applying for fac

but any real safe should be ok not these cheap ones

Hey sorry to drag this back up. but I just joined the forum to do some more reading on applying for a FAC and noticed something that I can actually help on.

There are at least 4 ways to open a "safe" like this, if not 5. and all take under a minute. Even if it was officially passed as something you could store ammunition in I wouldn't recommend it. B&Q do a doubled sided 4 lever lock mechanical safe which should be easy enough to upgrade to past BS ratings even up to a 7 or 9 lever safe lock. and its only £20.00ish.

As a tip anything with a mechanical override is a waste of money and any safe with an electronic keypad or user interface under a group1 safe lock is not worth bothering with.

Hope that helps

John

EDIT:

PS hello everyone, first post. I'm sure I wont be posting much till I get round to getting a FAC but great forum. everyone seems pretty helpful and friendly

I agree Jack.

Most DIY stores do a key locked safe for about £15 to £20.

They meet the minimum British standards so will prevent all

but the most determind thief.

I have had a Gun safe built for me and I put one of

those smaller safes in the top for the carts and it

does the job well.

Cheers taz.
