Graham M
And of course the thug who was armed with a knife and an extendable baton……..walked off without any charges being made against him. Another judge who need sacking and being made to live in those areas for the rest of her stupid life. G.M.

Big_Sam
Not a good move, but understandable. He could have not hit him and just drove off then got the police to nick him...thats what they are paid to do after all....
Mungler
******* joke. On cases like that he should have gone with not guilty and trial by jury and let them work it out. Anyone remember the father that did over the truck driver that ran over and killed his son and kept taunting the family and defacing the sons grave? The father did it alright but the jury refused the Judge's direction and all returned not guilty verdicts. People who manage to get through their lives without a single brush with the law do not deserve prison when pushed to the extreme. If the fella was a wrong 'un he would have had a record and maybe fair do's. But he didn't - he was straight until the day he snapped. It's not right. Big_Sam
Just been looking over the BBC news, it seems that being drunk and killing up to three people with your car only gets you 5-7years. For that time he may as well have got out and finished him off then downed a bottle of vodka.....
ossie1968
never justice for the hard working man, sure we would all do the same if pushed to our limits, let's hope he get loads of time off for good behaviour
Bagsy
I just don't know why, when public opinion on crime is so strong, nothing ever seems to change. When will we get someone with balls to stand up and make a stand over the liberal lefties running amok? It's not on.
Pushkin
Bagsy yesterday: 11:13pm I just don't know why, when public opinion on crime is so strong, nothing ever seems to change. The answer to that one is quite simple - and wisely thought out as well. The legislators draw up the laws and the judicial system are the guardians of those laws - as well as the enforcers. They took the power away from the man and woman in the street in order to bring some kind of sense and decency into the world and also to try and prevent misacarriages of justice from happening. If the man or woman in the street was more instrumental in changing the law as you suggest; then justice would be meted out on the basis of people's emotional understanding and outrage of a perceived situation. How guilty are the press in this country of reporting only what they want us to hear? And the reason for that is simple - it puts money in the owners pockets and keeps all those crappy reporters in a job to feed themselves and their bairns - or something like that. I know for a fact that training for reporters is full of ****e in many respects because so much of it these days is pretentious and prejudicial. How often recently have each of us become angry at something reported in the paper and then later found it was all ******** due to the fact the press had only told us a few choice details rather than the full facts which then show the story to be something totally different. No, I'm afraid your suggestion about how the law should be changed because you, and perhaps some others feel angry about a situation is not the way this land should incorporate and administer law - that is the way of the mob - what next - public stoning of individuals in the street because someone tells you it is right to do so and oh it would feel so good to do it at the time? I doubt if anyone on this forum would disagree with the sentiments about how it is sad that the innocent and provoked man in this situation ended up in jail. However, try being the judge and look at the facts rather than the feelings. She has not denied him his anger or frustration at the predicament he was in she agrees with him on this. Where she is saying he stepped out of the protection of the law - was when he deliberatley drove at the *** who provoked him. Would you have suggested that had he been a SGC carrier and had pulled out his shotty and shot the punk, that he should have gotten away with it? Far rather that we all pay attention to each other and protect each other as much as possible - even if this means a small gathering with some choice muscle for the punk that caused all this - and preferably up a dark alley out of the eyesight of innocents and bairns.
