The Weekends Activities

Met Gav at silly o clock had a quick chat then do the off on foot to the battleground. We spent ages laying nets and getting stung, badly, by nettles then enter Gav's Jill's and wait, wait, wait. Stick one of my girls in and then wait even longer. I was now seriously thinking about getting the spade out when a ferret shows hundreds of miles away  Shortly after that we heard a scut squealing and Gav spotted it coming up to a net only to disappear again. Send in another ferret and then BANG, one in the bag  We ran all the ferrets in all the holes and didn't see, or hear, another scut so we moved on.

Next bury started out as a two holer only to get bigger the longer we looked. So we netted what we could and put some ferrets in. All quiet for 5 minutes then we had a bolter who got clean away out of a net I laid  No more action on that one so we moved on, again.

This set was nice :/ 3 holes and easily covered. We tried out Gav's new hob who has never been worked before and is one of the smallest I have ever seen so hoping to have him service my polecat this season. Anyway, it was quiet for a few minutes then there was some stamping around going on. The scut showed at one net only to back off and within a minute it bolted. It was a good start for what must be the most chilled out hob I have ever seen.

Sorry the day wasn't busier Gav.

Right, back on thread.

I was up early to walk the dogs while the rottie cooked me some more duck eggs, poached on home made bread

I made my way over to Faversham and arrived at the old orchard at 07.40 and was greeted by the sight of rabbits and pheasants wandering about and paying no attention to my arrival whatsoever. Now you may think that I would be excited by the scene but after the last two seasons sessions I didn't expect much, and I was right.

We worked three banks with purse nets and zigzagged longnets on either side, and someones garden  and ended up with a bag of 12 scuts all bucks.

I can't see the team doing much more now as the does are carrying or nurturing young and well able to defend themselves.

I drove straight from there up the line to meet a man about some dog food and meet Lee to see his HMR in action. Lovely looking rifle with a very nice laminated stock. After he saw off some serial dog walkers who wanted to know why they weren't informed that there was some shooting going on :drinks: I got to fire a few rounds. There was a nice side wind and I failed to hit the 4'x4' target that was about 50' away :stupid: We then moved on to a line where there happened to be a rabbit with attitude  Lee was shooting into the wind and nailed it easily. He gutted it to show me the damage this small round can do with ballistic tips when the scuts are not taken as head shots. I had never seen how they get torn up inside before. Food for thought

I felt pretty knackered by then so said my goodbyes and went home with the intention to crash out. The dogs had different ideas though so I ended up walking through some woods until it was dark losing two lurcher's only to find them just as I got back to the landie. How do they do that

Bed at 10.30 and that was my weekend.
