Nitro,

As has been stated fox hunting s used to control not only fox numbers, but fox health as well. Adult healthy fox usually out run the pack and get to ground, where quite often the are left to run another day. Unhealthy fox are caught by the pack on a regular basis and dispatched . Cubbing is used to control vast numbers of new fox in the spring.

When a fox is caught it is caught by one hound, and with one fluid motion dispachted with a broken neck. It is dead with one hound in one shake, but may then be ragged over by more. In 20 years of riding with the hunt, several of which I was the whip I have never seen a fox or coyote ripped apart. I am not so nieve to believe that it has never happened but it is very uncommon and more a scare tactic used by anties spreading anti hunt propaganda to the uneducated.

If you are truely interested in finding out the truth of hunting, then attend a local hunt, and spectate as a follower on foot or by car. There will be lots of people there that are willing to answer your questions.

Nitro, to be fair I probably had similar views to you but based on naivity towards it and lack of knowledge. If you've not done it or watched it closely then its hard to appreciate what actually happens rather than the propaganda and imagining what happens. The majority of riders are female were it horrific and cruel would this be so, I don't know about you but the fairer sex is usually far more against cruelty. Personally i'd love to have a go and see more of it but I think it would bore me riding with the pack.

The hounds only catch the unhealthy ones usually but in the name of pest control most are usually got by the terrier men once they have gone to ground, something you hear far less about. But fundamentally they are there to kill foxes

Would you think it cruel for a fox to catch, kill and eat a rabbit? Probably not.

Would it suddenly become cruel, if, instead of one fox, the rabbit what pursued by several foxes? Unlikely, but again, probably not.

It seems to me, that if you are predisposed to believe that foxes are cute and harmless and that dogs are for company, bringing your slippers and chasing balls/sticks in the park: then you're failing to understand the nature, of nature.

Foxes predate rabbits and mice etc, Fox Hound predate Foxes, that's life. Remember the saying: It's a dog eat dog, world. - Well, there's a reason that for that.

"As it happens i am in the minority" !!

What did you really expect on a shooting/hunting site? People agreeing with your anti-hunting sentiments?

Maybe you should not have read Watership Down, you really are a classic case of "Those having the least to say having the biggest mouths".

My opinion is that you are a troll, just posting here to stir things up.

SS also said he doesnt agree with it i dont see anyone here jumping on the band waggon telling him to find another site.... why is that ?

The reason is Nitro that I am well known to and have met most of the regular users on here and they know that I do go out and shoot, hunt, trap quarry. I run a pheasant syndicate, I've helped out one or two members in pest control for foxes, pigeons rats etc.

You on the other hand are new to the forum and due to some rather unpleasant experiences with previous persons putting posts on here, people will jump "down your throat" so to speak. What people outside of hunting, shooting, fishing fail to realise is how passionate about their individual chosen sport some of us are.

You will see the different style of posting just on this thread alone. I took your comments in the manner with which I felt they deserved, just somebody asking a question without realising exactly what was and wasn't legal. I saw no malice, intent or maelavolence intended.

Don't take it to heart, and if you are an honest and genuine person, which I think you are, then read the past posts, learn and enjoy.
