craigfssnow
Wife has let me buy a .17 to add to my Winchester 12b and .22 CZ Silhouette but has said that the spending has to stop. Can-anyone recommend a good but inexpensive scope for bunnies at about 80-100 yards, (or a replacement wife) Cheers. Craig
steve b
a .17 is pretty much without recoil especially with a mod on the end so you can get away with a cheaper scope such as a hawke or other low end scope especially as the round is pretty much flat shooting. steve

DaveK
Me and Mrs Dave have Simmons whitetail classics on ours. Not expensive, good clear optics in low light and very robust.
tjdwillis
Iv got a hawke varmint II, 6-24x44. its pretty clear and holds its zero, so i cant fault it. I have shot rabbits up to 180m with it and never really use it on more than 14x or 16x, never use 20+. id have a look at a 4-14x hawke. at the end of the day you get what you pay for, but i woulodnt waste extra money on any more zoom than that. just my veiw! ...having had a look, its 4-16x that they do. casts_by_fly
I'm of the opinion that you buy optics once. I also like a lot of magnification. I put a Bushnell Elite 3200 5-15 on my HMR and while I really like the scope, I wish I had more magnification. The HMR is about precise bullet placement. When you put a rabbit in the scope at 100 yd, I like to center the cross hairs on a point on its head, not on the whole head. The 15x is good, but 24x for me would be better. next scope for my 223 will be either the 6-24 or 4.5 - 30 elite. it currently has an 18x and it isn't enough magnification for me. thanks, rick
