  1. Please could you add photos.
  2. I have a Harris prone bipod on my .243, and always stalk with a stick. Recently I have started to realise that a bipod is of little use in woodland stalking, and I dont have enough confidence to shoot of the stick unless Im very close. Im thinking about investing in a sitting/kneeling bipod. Whats the best option?
  3. I have a leupold VX-11 3-9x40 scope (pre-2004). I am looking for a sunshade and an objective lense cover. Does anyone know which sunshades fit this scope, and which lense cover to get. I think Butler creek do a 39.9mm and a 40.6mm lene cover. the scope is screw cut at the objective end but I think the pre 2004 and post 2004 scopes are different. Is this correct? thanks
  4. I bought a .243 remmingon 700 sps for stalking and foxes. I would have prefered a detachable mag, but thats the first time i have really thought about it. I bought mine new from trulock and harris in suffolk for £495, its not screw cut. 555 seems expensive (how much would it cost to screw cut)?
  5. sounds good to me...good luck
  6. If you want both put in for both. I doubt they would give you one and not the other. and wait for some more replies because there are alot of people on here that will be able to give better advice. especially if you want two rifles. I wouldnt have thought .243 and .308 was the best combo.
  7. The few reds that i have shot have all been with a .243. I am no expert, and although it may be pushing the limits, it seems to do the job. For the smaller deer and foxes i like the .243. The only other rifles I have used are .25-06 and .308, both for roe. I prefer shooting the .243.
  8. good shooting! interesting how one cub is quite alot larger than the other...is that normal? where they head shots?
  9. My personal choice was a .243 but it depends exactly what you want to shoot. are you looking for a foxing rifle that you can shoot the odd smaller deer with, or a deer rifle that you can shoot the occasional fox with. What sort of deer are you going to be shooting? I bought the rifle for foxes up to roe deer, with the occasional larger deer.
  10. if you go on there profile you can look at their posts and threads...you can usually work out if someone knows what they are talking about, and if the trustworthy, but be carefull.
  11. i suggest you find someone who can teach you to shoot a rimfire safely, and then get a .22lr or a .17HMR. i doubt you would be able to get a canterfire straight away. You will need a good bit of land to shoot on aswell or you wont be allowed it.
  12. When do I saw through the skull? and when do I take the insides of the head out? before or after boiling? or does the brain come out during the boiling? cheers
  13. if thats the wad the shots probably long gone, good photo though.
  14. well done...did u find the last cub though? there are only 4 there.
  15. no need for a semi-auto. i agree with a cz .22lr, sak mod, and spend the rest on a half decent scope.
  16. Does anyone know where I can get peroxide from and what strength I need for roe skulls. Cheers
  17. I was in the same sort of position as you a few months ago. I have been stalking for about 5 years, but always with my uncle (.243) or with an ex proffesional who is a friend of his (.308) and all roe deer. I have shot a few stags in scotland with .243. I opted for a .243 as it covers everything. Most of my shooting is fox, muntjac, roe. I am using 75gn bullets at the moment and it deals with them all. For the very occasional red in the future 100gn bullets will be fine. Everything i have shot with my own rifle has been under 100 yards as im still new to doing it alone. Im very happy with it. My uncle has swapped his for a .25-06, just because hes doing more reds now. I would go for a .243 again if i was starting again, although my experience with others is limited.
  18. in ur first post it sounds as though you want to get a .17hmr to shoot in the field. Why do you need a gun club? sorry if i have misunderstood!
  19. no im not reloading yet...hopefully one day. im looking for factiry ammo (i should have made that clear). Am I right in thinking that te minimum bullet weight is 100gn in scotland. thanks for the replies though.
  20. A few months ago I finally got a .243 for roe muntjac. I knoe that some people say its not enough for red but I have been up to scotland in august for a few years now and the few red I have shot have all been with a .243. My question is which bullets would you reccomend. I know it has to be a minimum of 100gn. My rifle is a remmington 700 sps. cheers
  21. id invest in a good camcorder with bucks like that around
  22. its a good point but i would have thought that if the farmers not happy he will let someone else shoot there.
  23. im using a remmington sps .243. thanks for the replies.
  24. The man who used to manage the deer on my uncles farm has recently passed away. He used to take me out stalking but since then myself and a cousin and my uncle have started doing it. There where alot of deer and weve been shooting anythink we can. Its all roe deer and weve shot quite a few since then, but there are still a good number of deer. my question is which deer should I be looking to cull. What are the signs of a deer that should be culled and which ones should i leave. any help would be much apreciated?
  25. Iv got a hawke varmint II, 6-24x44. its pretty clear and holds its zero, so i cant fault it. I have shot rabbits up to 180m with it and never really use it on more than 14x or 16x, never use 20+. id have a look at a 4-14x hawke. at the end of the day you get what you pay for, but i woulodnt waste extra money on any more zoom than that. just my veiw! ...having had a look, its 4-16x that they do.
