funky
Well it was cold and it hailed and rained for a bit i managed to bag 2 shot about 15 cartridges it was a bad show but spent most of the time looking at what they were doing. noticed they seemed to like the north end of the farm so will try again tomorrow. mad dogs and English men thats what they say I noticed that the crops on the two i shoot were empty so they have yet to get there heads down feeding. the flock i noticed were about 500 strong so if i can locate them earlier i may have a better change as the weather seems to be brighter tomorrow. Thank for the reply Lewismac1 and Mel b3. Edited March 17, 2008 by funky

funky
Well day 2 I made a mistake today lads which was a lesson to me. On leaving the shoot Monday i saw about 500 to a 1000 pigeons at the north end of the area so i decided to go there in the morning as it was going to be a NNW breeze, this meant that i will have the birds flying over me and hopfully turning into the wind into my pattern. also having the wind behind me means that i have a better change as i'm not a brilliant shot. I set up but soon realized that i was about 700 yards of the line and the birds were flying across the field from right to left. The mistake was that i assumed that they would be in that area in the morning but they had moved halfway down the west side field probably after i went home. Moral of the story is locate them before you set up. I ended up moving and then got some action. bagged a few only missed quite a few too. Happy days to all back out again tomorrow but the forcast don't look good , Oh well mad dogs and English men lol Edited March 18, 2008 by funky

Suffolk shooter
Funky, Take alook at the Met office forecast and you will see that there is about to be ahuge barometer pressure drop due to the westerly low about to blow in, the pigeons will be hitting the feed hard in the next couple of days trust me, the only thing thats going to ruin it for you is the supposed sllet and rain. But battle it out and the birds will be starving in the breaks and will decoy easily (more easily than normal). Where abouts in Suffolk are you then, as we have thousands of birds all over the place at the moment, big flocks all over from A140 to A12 via Stonham etc. Hopefully they will split up after this low pressure period we're in and then should be in smaller groups making decoying a bit easier rather than one shot and off. All the best. Get some pics up. SS

I went round today and had a look, took my AYA for a walk the birds were really high and fast due to the wind and they were sitting pretty in the trees until i came along. You need to put the photos onto a storage website like photobucket and then link from there. Do you do any wildfowling? Only ask because it seems you might be right in the heart of the North Suffolk Wildfowlers area, and we're looking for new members. Good value for money compared to most forms of shooting. We also have a fortnightly clayshoot as well at Westhall There is a website, just google it. There is more than one member from there on here, so any questions just ask. All the best if you do go out after the pigeons. SS

shooternick
you will probably get more pigeons if you put your magnet a little further away from your hide Funky Ha Ha
funky
Hi all just a summery of the four days i did manage to get out total bag 23 pigeons not good i know but never the less very enjoyable... Most of the action was in the mornings which seemed to end between 12.00 and 1.00 PM to be honest i did miss a good few and found out some things that i was doing wrong. So in some ways it was a good thing as it has helped me evolve in my Pigeon shooting. As mentioned earlier in this post the weather was not brilliant. and it was bloody cold. and with that wind blowing some of those birds were hacking passed me at a rate of knots. The worst aspect of it all was that i carried all my gear from the car which was quite heavy all in all around 80lbs in weight including ammo and gun, so have bought myself a Pajero 4x4. It was on the cards anyway this just made my mind up for me  LESSONS LEARNT  Firstly Never go to where pigeons are on the ground, but look and see how they are getting there and place your hide and pattern on or near the flightline keep well away from where they are feeding and draw the ones flying to that feeding area to you pattern. Second Take time to set your hide up well and putting your pattern down, as not doing this means you will have to break from the hide and adjust stuff and this is usually when a few decide to fly by.If they see any movement they turn away before there in range. So be patient and wait until they are almost landing to take your shot. Thirdly I really do enjoy being out with my gun and learning. So do not be put of by not getting a bag full as this is part of the game. You have to make mistakes to learn from them if nothing happens with in a hour do not be scared to move and keep your eyes open at all time to see where they are flying not where they are landing if you go to close they will be spooked and on rape this is fatal, they just move off never to be seen again.. HAPPY SHOOTING LADS AND LASSES All the best Funky
funky
you will probably get more pigeons if you put your magnet a little further away from your hide Funky Ha Ha LOL shooternick good one but how true your are that was one of the problems too, If the magnet is too close to your pattern then it does spook them off i ended up moving it 20 meters away from the last decoy to get them to commit to the pattern. all the best mate

In which case I will see you there. I'll be the one done up like I've just come from work. Probably because I will have just driven the 2 hours or more to get there from work Get yourself down to the clayshoots, its a good crack. Did you get anything when you went out with your mate? Lots about but high up due to lack of wind and cloud most of the season. Could have done with weather like we have had today, near blizzard conditions at times. See you on the 2nd SS

Ah a fellow southerner, we'll soon have them talking proper like what we do me auld china See you there on the 2nd. anser2
Funky , i would not worry about putting your magnet in the decoy patten if needed. I often put mine in the patten , in a hole between two pattens and between the patten and my hide , it all depends on the wind direction and how the birds are working. The one thing that do find can cause problems is putting the magnet in a position outside the patten as the birds often slip wide then. I was out on friday and the birds were drifting in the wind along the outer edge of the patten with the magnet set 20 yards out infront. I moved the magnet to within a couple of yards of the hide and the birds came in with confidence giving easy shots. I would never say there is a set place for the magnet just be prepared to move it if the pigeons are not comming in quite right.
