NO

If you want to fire a rifle across the farmers land the you need written permission. Shotguns you dont, although it is a good idea if you can then you can show busybodys that you are allowed to be there and you can ask for theirs and if they havent got it and it is not a public right of way you can ask the to leave.

P.S Craig, concentrate on getting land before ripping the ar@ehole out of every intricacy involved with it. The farmer will brief you where to go and where not. Also when you approach a farmer for permission have a photocopy of you licennse and shooting insurance handy. Insurance is available from BASC or the CPSL

No worries Craig-O

I still shoot over farms on which I have permission and people still walk up to me on the field on which they have no rights to be there. I still feel slightly guilty about being there. It all stems back to being a youngster and creeping across fields with the old air rifle. If you treat everything with the respect that you would imagine your Mother being treated if she came across a stranger in the field you should be allright

Rifleman 56,

Ground Game Act 1880. Section 1.

The occupier himself and one other person, in writing, shall be the only persons entitled to kill ground game with firearms.

Every person so authorised by the occupier,on demand by any other person having a concurrent right, or any person so authorised by him in writing, must produce their written authority. In default a person would not be deemed to be an authorised person.

A shotgun is a firearm, first and foremost, until it is classified to be a shotgun under the Firearms Act.

Hope this helps.
