First Outing with the HMR

Well, I got the CZ 452 HMR I wanted :good:

Think I was raped on the ammo though, wasn't happy about the brand - as I wanted the Hornady 17gr V-MAX, but I got the Remington version of the same, 17gr with the gold tipped V-MAX bullets, £28 for 100

I still havent got a scope yet :/, so borrowed one of a .22 semi of my step-dads that needs a zeroing anyway. So strapped it on for now (6x32) and had it zerod in about 20 rounds, there was a bit of wind and unforunately my groups were all rather horizontal! - time for that trigger kit :/.

Anyway, moved to my favourate vantage point, it's ontop of the farmhouse, theres a flat roof above an extension section. As you can see, clear views out accross two fields that are littered with rabbit and indeed the odd fox comes sniffing regularly too, the fields are a lot wider than they are deep, but the far hedge is 136m away and so perfect for getting to grips with the HMR - especially given it was a little gusty that day.

The firing point and my spotter.

Had a good little session, up there for a while, first shot in anger so to speak resulted in the first kill, a pigeon at 107m :good:

Overall, the HMR is a cracking peice of kit, I never fired one before I bought one, it does indeed live upto it's great reputation! Fantasticly flat and fast. The CZ is great considering the value, I must sort a scope out for it ASAP, but with the SAK mod and bipod it was a pleasure (**** me is it loud without the mod!). The trigger really does need sorting as it is very heavy out of the box, but £14 will sort that out, so you guys have reliably informed me :D I'll also float the barrel when I fit the fit as it is touching I am sure underneath a few inches from where it leaves the reciever.

A very happy HMR owner!

Glad your pleased with it, i love mine.. my local gun smith has repeatedly told me that all the hmr ammo is loaded by the same people, but branded different, although i do find mine prefers federal, so don't know..! I'm paying £12 for 50 atm. One local shop wants £17!!

It is a lovely rifle. If that's a Varmint model, I have one too and I agree about the trigger. I'll be sorting mine out as soon as I can get a kit for it (and the .22 Style I have).

Ammo-wise, I got 150 rounds to try out for about 30 quid: three different types of 50 and it seems to like the one at the moment. I still have the others to try out though, but the weather right now is making it tricky to get out into the field and give them a fair chance.

mine loves the remington ammo and best bit is I've a mate who bought some ammo at £10.50 a box so will be going and buying a load pretty quickly as I've not seen it that cheap.

Its a cracking caliber as you're finding out perfect for rabbit sniping

Sounds like your geting to grips with it, nice one. :good:

I run the Remmingtons through mine and it loves them, though I only pay 8.50 a box fro mine, or at least that was the last time I bought some. I bought a 1000 so its been a while. I have also tried the Federal Cartridge V-Max which is also good.

It will depend a little on your scope and mount hieght, but on my HMR with SAK mod I dont get any glare back from the mod.

If you do you have a proble 2 solutions:

1. If you can fit a sun shade to your scope this will help reduce the problem

2. Cover the mod with a non reflective material. Cheapest solution is a section of bike inner tube. You can also buy realtree style tape that will work as well.

Still can't find a Nikko Sterling Nighteater 6-24x56IR scope mind.....the suspence is killing me!

Have you tried Optics Warehouse?

As for the Sak and lamp, I tried all sorts to rectify the reflection, but the best solution for me was to fit the sunshade on my Nighteater.
