Harnser
A similer poll has just been done without the .308 . Woudnt be surprised if the super versatile .308 comes top of the poll .Harnser .
The Burpster
Curently own a .270Win, but if I had my time again I would have got a 6.5x55mm(thats what I voted for) In fact when the barrels knacked (if I ever wear if out) I may just do that! casts_by_fly
Coming from American heritage, I've obviously got an -06. If you reload, you can do a lot with it from loading down light bullets for small deer (I bet the 125 soft points loaded to ~2500-2600 would be dandy on roe), loading heavy bullets for big deer (the 180's do a number on game), or midweights for longer range deer stuff. We have shot the 165gr ballistic tips for whitetails since they came out. Loaded slightly over max you can push them in the 2850 range which (on a whitetail, sika or red) will let you hold on fur out to almost 400 yards. If you really want to get crazy you can crank up the 125's or even 110's and do some varminting. Thanks, Rick
Baldrick
Which two lunatics voted for the .375 H&H Mag?! For deer? I would never count the 6.5x55 as a big calibre, but it's my favourite.
njc110381
I voted 6.5x55. I have one and love it. However, I do like the sound of the .375 H&H. I may well ask for one sometime if I can dream up a good reason to have it (and we all know that with a little initiative that's not too hard!). I do like my 6.5. I have no experience of anything else really, but I bought it because a few people who have shot a lot more deer than I ever will suggested it would be a good calibre for me
