Shotgun suggestions

Recommended Posts

can any one suggest a SG what will match the criteria below ?

1. the shot gun will be used mainly in the field for rough shooting and rarely the clays.

2. im not bothered about fancy stocks or anything like that

3. the gun must be 12. gauge

4. the gun must be O/U

5. i would prefer ejectors but not essential

6. nearly forgot, must be right handed!

Do any of you know of anyguns which will match the above ?

my budget is around £200.00 so i will obviously be after a second hand gun!

many thanks, yes im not really interested in "pretty" guns what so ever!

i.m.o a shotgun is just a firing pin hitting the primer cap!

"he says as he awaits the slating"

i have looked on for sale section and some guns i have seen stretch well above my budget and do look very nice. The thing is though i would wreck it in the field : /

reedbradshaw ,

Just because a gun is being used in the field dosent mean it has to get wrecked .I have guns that i have had for many years and they are as good as the day a bought them . Yes some times you get the odd ding on the stock or the rib but its not the end of the world .

Martins advice is very sound , I once had a baikal and it was a very strong use any were gun and would give a life times service . Your budget should buy you a decent baikal and i can assure you that they dont have bamboo barrels . All the best . Harnser .

many thanks for all your advice !

bamboo barrels ? im guessing that means cheapo barrels ? ? ?

i didnt get to go to the gun shop today on the way home from work ( traffic ! ) but i hope to go on thursday to have a good look round and get my feel to some of the guns!

so you all think £200.00 is adequate for a 2nd hand baikal?

many thanks yet again for all the great help !

Reed

why does it have to be a 12 gauge as you could widen your search and look at 20 gauge too, both will do the same job and a 20 should be lighter to carry both will have the same market value , just you have to be a little more accurate with the 20

Troll Hunter.

ive only ever shot 12 gauge & .410 before. Ive been clay shooting about 5 times now and i regularly hit between the 60%-70% mark. As for hunting ive used the 12 gauge weekly for about 3 months now and i feel very comforable with it ( all be it ive never shot a 20 gauge! ). Many thanks for your comments

Iam sorry reedbradshaw if i misled you ,thats not the way of this forum . Bamboo barrels is a joke and refers to very old guns made before steel was used . The chinese actually made guns with Bamboo barrels . Harnser .

Around here "rough" guns go for around £150 in the shops.

I use a Rizzini bought new years ago & an old Breda s/auto.

I've also got a Zanoletti bought new years ago but as that's no longer used I'm thinking of selling it.

I'll be lucky to get £100 from a shop & I know they'll mark it up to £150 or a little more.

Take you'r time looking, something will turn up at the right price.

Hatsan Escorts are a marmite gun, love or loathe, you could do worse than one of those.

I've seen Breda's go for well under £100 as well.
