Axe
and so long as its 50 foot away from a public highway e.g. road This is incorrect. You are entitled to shoot within 50 feet of a public highway as long as in doingso you do not cause harm to or prevent from using, anyone using the highway. Your best bet is to speak to all of your surrounding neighbours explaining what you wish to do in a detailed manor covering safety and sound issues. After all this is what their concerns will be. njc110381
I'd say it's fine as long as you're not in view of anyone. If your neighbours can see you I'd suggest talking to them first. Tell them what you're doing and that it's legal and safe, as a "just to let you know" rather than "is it ok". Old carpet is a great airgun backstop, as is a big plastic flower pot full of compressed grass cuttings
Timelord
Everything said above is correct and the right thing to do. My recommendation would be to fit a silencer to your rifle/pistol etc thus eliminating your neighbors concern/distress as not to cause any alarm to them. I've just brought a Sheridan CO2 pistol which un-silenced can make a rather loud CRACK!! I've fitted a Weihrauch silencer using an adapter to achieve this and all I can say is JOB DONE My neighbors don't even know when I'm shooting and just carry on with their lives without any concerns.....
