Baldrick
Have never heard of a manufacturer called Avalon. The big name brands (Miroku, Beretta and Browning) retain the best resale value.
bob300w
Yep, Avalon is the name of a gunshop in Somerset, this is one of the "badged" guns retailed by them with their own name on them. http://www.avalon-guns.com/shotguns.php

CharlieT
Avalon as a retailer have a very good name and they sell a lot of guns. This looks on the face of it a very good buy for £395. If you phone Andy at Avalon he may tell you the maker.
Guest
Looks a nice gun mate, might even have a look myself at this years game fairs - I'm not bothered about having a name for the sake of it, I realise that they are more valuable and hold money, but for me, if it will break clays and drop pigeons it will do, I don't shoot every week, as much as I'd like to. These look nicer/better than the other budget guns I have seen - worth an email or call I reckon! Sam

I've never been to one myself, I've only been shooting less than a year now. This does have all the features, and it's a nice looking gun as well I thought. I'll give Avalon a call tomorrow, find out what their warranty is and speak to Andy as mentioned above....
sbald
I used to have one of these, I bought it from Litts(i understand they are made for a number of shops)They are good value but made to a price, my biggest problem was it was a very heavy gun.If you are thinking of getting one you must try it first as I found it too heavy to use for long periods. Cosd
I just called Avalon guns to ask some questions. These are actually made by Webley and Scott and come with a years warranty. I also asked about the weight and he didn't have the actual weight but said they are a little heavy, the sporter (30") being between 7.5 - 8lbs; The game (28") gun being slightly lighter. He explained that unlike other sport and game guns these do not have the usual diffeerences like the rib width etc, they just differ in barrel length and slight weight difference because of that. I mainly shoot from the hide, but do still go for a walk around, do you more experienced guys think this is way too heavy? Am I being silly (looking into the light ) because this is a new gun, or should I look at second hand instead? There is something about buying new but my budget doesn't give me much choice; I'm attracted to all the features this offers as it has everything, MC, 5 chokes, EJ, SST. Would you guys recomend 28" over 30", I'm 5'11"?
nforster
not sure if webley and scotts are made in turkey or spain, but prob made much to a budget. resale value may be low and depreciation high, perhaps a decent newish secondhand mainstream manufacturer would be better, beretta, browning, miroku . as long as one fits. MJN
not sure if webley and scotts are made in turkey or spain, but prob made much to a budget. resale value may be low and depreciation high, perhaps a decent newish secondhand mainstream manufacturer would be better, beretta, browning, miroku . as long as one fits. The gun is advertised at NEW £395, so the deprecation in pounds would be less of a loss than that of any premium make IMO, and some are asking more than the new price for SH ones on GT ! So I would say that if it is the buyers budget then go for it, as I doubt if you can get a decent SH Beretta, Browning or Miroku O/U for £395 (semi maybe) M. I lie, I've justr been offered a beretta O/U for GBP 395.00 a nice looking gun Edited May 24, 2008 by MGMan
