bob300w
The system of roman numerals that you describe was used by the Italian proof houses from 1945 (1) to 1970 (XXV1), so it is quite easy to date the year of proof/manufacture of Italian guns since 1945. '71 to '74 used an illogical mix of X's and numerals, '75 onwards to date uses a mix of letters, not random, but not consecutive either. Previous to '45, there were no date markings. 2shots
hi guys could anyone give me an approximate age of a 686e sporting with adjustable comb serial number a87949b.i know there are roman numerals on the barrel but i did`nt get a chance to look for them. what`s your thoughts on the 686e? many thanks Hi I bought a 686e 30i mc when they first came out in 2004, excellent gun and wouldnt change it, the one youve bought should be newer than this with the adjustable comb, they then changed in 2006 to the s686e with different engraving and adjustable comb again,my production number is a lot less than yours starting with a051,the original 686e were made in the same factory as a dt10 but the newer ones were made in the same factory as the silver pigeon series. You can join beretta world for around £20 quid which gives access to everything beretta, and even dates guns etc.

M4X
What do the proof marks say? remember they may be italian. Thanks for the Proof House Dates, I've now dated the households Berettas - one proofed in 1986 the other in 1987 - GMK say that guns this age are not on their database. I have had the but pad off one of them and there is no date stamp on the stock, the more recent guns do have dates stamped on the stock
