Shooting moving targets with a rifle

Recommended Posts

you'd be able to fix a peace of card/paper to the inner centre of the tyre???

should imagane it would be quite hard with a scope fixed to the rifle or do you have open sights??? sounds like fun anyway.

One other idea is if you have kids you could always swipe there remote controled car, or even go and buy one. fix some sort of target to it?:hmm:

any streams or rivers available ? - best with plenty of bank oneside to catch any ricochets - or just watch the angles.

Throw a few twigs in and .22 away - buy more gadgets with the savings.

or forget the twigs and use trout - get supper thrown in. You can practice refraction too :hmm:

Cheers

John,

I just recieved my new copy of North American Hunter yesterday and there is an article with lots of pictures about this very subject. The unit looks easy enough to make etc. I have not read it yet but it may well have the information you are looking for.

PM me your address and i will photo copy it and send it off to you.

What about two pigeon magnets ?? yds apart with a circular rope attached and targets hanging down,

steel plates would be better as you can hear the hits.

otherwise local mod / gun club ranges, i have shot movers on these.

Now we're talkin  I must look for some pigeon magnet plans and see what that would entail. Only have a dozen or so pigeons around me here lol so they're in no danger from one. Not sure it'd power and hold steel plates though?, perhaps a paper cardboard backed target against a safe hillside? I live in a very rural area, proper rifle ranges are too far for me to travel to.

John a couple of old windscreen wiper motors from a scrappy, loads of magnets have been made

from these and 12 volt :hmm:

Morning all,

Since there are now cattle on my rabbit permission and it's dark too late for me to bother with the foxes I need to throw money away some other way. Last night I was on an American forum, and I saw a post asking how people learned to shoot targets that were on the run. I have a lot of permission that would be very safe for this ??? Wilderness with backdrops all over the shop. Now, they Yanks were talking about rolling tyres down a hill and shooting through them :good: and putting paper targets on rails and sending them off downhill as well. This is well and good if there are a few people doing at it, but billy no mates here  will be doing it on his lonesome. Besides the fact I won't shoot at a ****** tyre and how would I know it passed through the middle anyway!

So, I Googled. I saw one great looking automatic set up, an unfortunately man shaped target on a moveable clothes line type affair. Two problems, I don't shoot at or want to shoot at people and it cost well in excess of $1,000. No thanks. Second thing I saw was an air rifle set up made by Gamo. It's a target on rails type doohicky (technical term). Four speeds I think and targets like rabbit, squirrel and deer. The deer and rabbit idea I believe are ment to simulate centrefire rifle shooting at distance with an air rifle as the targets are small. Problem number one, I don't got an air rifle.

I may end up getting the Gamo one anyway and using my .22lr. Again and to be boringly repetitive it will only be done in safe areas of which there are many here, the walkers don't even get to where I go in a lot of places. But, if anyone here knows of any other gizmo, thing-a-ma-bob, contraption or technique to become better at this type of shooting then please let me know

I can already do it with shotguns before anyone suggests that ???

All the best,

John

John how about if you have a sloping field, bang two posts in the ground about 20 feet apart, some tentioned wire and a target on small wheels to roll down it, put a peg to hold the target in place, shoot the peg off and the target rools down the wire  Edited by Fleabag
