TX Sniper
for roost shooting late jan till late feb is the best time. they may feed on other things such as clover, veg i dunno what else. perhaps you could decoy them on that. eugene molloy
Cooke103, I worked out a few rules for myself when roosting pigeon; they might help you or give you an idea. 1. Don't shoot the same wood more than once a fortnight; you'll spook them. 2. Great training for your dog in steadiness and marking; take him along so he can have some fun too. If yours is an old rogue who isn't steady it won't matter much. 3 Spend time just watching. Usually they don't come straight to the spot they will finally roost in; if you get in the first dropping down spot your mate can get in the final one. When you fire a shot they'll fly off and give him a chance too. 4 Stand with your back to a darkish tree, with a bit of a clear space in front, and wear a mask or big brimmed bonnet. 5 Keep an eye on water troughs, splashes and dew ponds; they like a drink after supper (so do I!) 6 Let people know what your at; it's a ****** hearing shots at dusk when you don't know who's about. 7 have a ball. ernyha
i saw 4 pigeons and got 3 whats wrong with my pigeons, or is this typical of pigeons this year? jake cooke103, If you look through this forum you will see that it is a national problem for all of us. There seems to have been an exceptionally large crop of acorns and berries this year and the pigeon are not bothering to leave the woods when all the food they need is right there for them. Hopefully things will pick up in the next couple of months and we can spend many freezing days in the rape fields.

Cranfield
If you have no arable crops to shoot over, then the best chance you will have is roost shooting, which is at its best after Christmas. Windy and cloudy late afternoons are best. You may find some on the berries, acorns, or beechmast, but they usually just move on when disturbed. Ears
The best time for shooting pigeons is when there is a lot of em about. The worst time is when you dont see any. And with all these acorns and beech nuts and ivy berrys is getting difficult at the moment over here.
