tuck1
Yep. Was very popular once over, fashions change a little, now 22 250 and 223 is en vogue. Nice calibre the .222. What sort of ranges do you need?

codling99
i use a .222 cz 527. brill gun imho. extremely accurate rifle, furthest checked with range finder was 188 yds for a fox,had a bunnie at 152 yds,and checked my zero on shotgun carts at 175 yds and hit them square on. dont think id bother getting anything bigger ,cant see me ever going deer stalking so .222 will do me
bignoel
my thoughts exactly 222 big enough

radio1ham
hi noel i got the 243 and loving it it flat to shoot and good for fox and if you want the ocassianal deer aswell mind you it does kick a bit with 100grain bullets in it
bignoel
hmm i am tempted with the 243 but i realy didnt want to go bigger than 222 . i have used his 243 and i must say they dont run after a blast of it. one lad with us called it a bluddy elephant gun ha ha
Ice
Isnt the difference between a .222 and a .223 so minimal it isnt worth mentioning??? Therefore how come the .223 seems to be the more popular? is it cheaper to produce as its mass produced???
radio1ham
yep they do make a bit noise but like you say once they hear the bang they are as good as in the bag but i love using my little rem mod 7, ammo a bit pricey but im going to start to load my own which works out a bit cheaper as they nearly 20 quid for a box of 20 up here so plenty fun to be had when autumn gets here with the lamp when the fields have no live stock in them
Devon Fox
Had a 222, brilliant round, bowled hundreds of foxes with it, i almost wished i had kept it,easily took foxes at 200yrds. I changed it for a 243, again a great gun, stick a t8 on it and its a puppy dog!, if you want to take deer occasionally then its a good compromise, running costs are a little more, but a good all rounder for me. hawkeye
I was looking at a 222 but ended up with 223 ammo easier to get but saying that i now load my own.. I got a Tikka T3 and put a T8ar mod on and it is nearly as quiet as my HMR ...

WGD
Guy I go lamping with has used his .222 for over 20 years and put literally thousands of rounds through it - the vast majority resulting in 1st shot kills (I've never seen him miss). .222 more than up to the job of shooting foxes mate, so if it's the calibre you fancy you needn't worry about its capabilities.
