Anyone who didn't swell with pride watching the coxless fours doesn't deserve to call themselves British.

But, an interesting debate on R5 this morning,

How many of the Team GB came from a "privileged" background, now i'm not taking anything away from a marvellous achievement, but it does make you think.

Apparently it is thoroughly brassing off the Australians, that we are above them on the table, which makes it well worth it. They are so far up themselves that any of their sporting achievments leave me cold. They will all be popping an extra Viagra to make up for their loss of manhood tonight. This privelige thing on the BBC is just that,a BBC thing. Meaningless PC twaddle.

Wait untill we get to the beer-swilling, bragging and Sheila-bashing triathlon though, the ozzies will walk off with all of the golds.

Yes, the commentator peaked a bit too soon on that one, his voice couldn't actually go up any higher at the 100metres to go mark :good:

We have done well at cycling, swimming, rowing and sailing but track and field are letting the side down at the moment.

All ones where rich nations have a marked advantage :good: . When it comes down to events that are a more level playing field, we shine less brightly.

Grumble grumble.

As the funny Scottish fella off "mock the week" commented - it's a good job none of the african nations can afford to go Yachting and don't have a good supply of clean running water.

In fairness, if the Olympics were limited to "true" disciplines such as running, fighting and throwing stuff then you might as well call it "The African Nations Olympics".

We would then have to set up the "Western World Olympics" and have some new "Western" disciplines:

1. tax evasion and benefit fraud

2. jet ski and water ski (to include towing and launching off a 4x4 and a freestyle "hooning up" challenge to obtain top speed on say the Norfolk Broads)

3. chess, reversi and solitaire

4. world of warcraft / nintendo wii fitness olympics (and other on line gaming sub divisions)

5. 60 second Big Mac / larger bombing challenge

6. Parcours / free running for inhabitants of Western high rise slums

That's the agenda set for 2012 :good: .

Here you go some sports on telly for poor Northern people, enjoy:

Rory and Paddy's Great British Adventure (Travel)

Time - 21:00 - 22:00 (1 hour long)

When - Wednesday 20th August on five

Comedians Rory McGrath and Paddy McGuinness travel the UK in a camper van in search of strange sporting events. The pair head to the north of England and Scotland, where they try out axe throwing and caber tossing. They attempt to beat the pie-eating world record in Wigan; witness the Great Knaresborough Bed Race; and attempt to take on the world stone-skimming champion at Scotland's beautiful Loch Eck.
