nagantino
I have just returned to decoying after a long diversion into clays and rifles. Today I was given permission to shoot some very promising fields near my home. Work will not allow me to shoot early in the morning. So my question is, Is it worthwhile decoying from say, mid day onwords?
Auto
Without doubt mate, I went out after tea time the other night as they were still working a field.
HaveToShoot
The birds seem to be starting to move at about 2 to 3 Pm lately. I would say its worth it.
foxshooter243
Definitley, one of the best days i had continued on till late, i had to quit at 7.30 pm and at that stage they were coming thick and fast, we were decoying over stubble incidentally. Greenhunter
Couldn't agree more with all other replies. In my experience you'll get more after 2 o'clock than before!
Plumbob
Also agree the best shooting is in the afternoon at the moment, last couple of outings have shot well from about 12pm onwards, but it seems to be very good between 2pm and 3.30pm then peaks off and stops by about 7pm. I've also noticed the flock sizes have increased in the past couple of weeks.

THEINVISIBLESCARECROW
Any time upto a couple of hours before dusk I've found. They seem a bit slow getting out of bed as well, unlike crows.
bjlfishing
i agree the last 2 wk ends ive been up a 4 in the morning waiting for crows and pigeons and the pigeons aint seemed to get moving till about half nine and then they dont seem bothered to feed just mill about in trees but yesterday arfo from 3 onwards till about 7 they were hitting a field hard and really wanted to be on, my mate dosent bother till the afternoon now as he thinks cos the weather has been so wet they are waiting for the barley / wheat to dry out a bit before they feed
Rossenarra
I also agree, I have been getting up at 6 over the last couple of weekend to monitor pigeon activity....zero...however number signifcantly increase in the evening from 4 o clock to around
pigeon controller
On some days I do not set up till 16.00 and shoot to 20.00 and pick up 100 plus birds. If you start at first light you will find the feeding frenzey stops while they digest the food and then they will start again in the afternoon.
