Axe
I was watching an animal rescue program yesterday where they had rescued a Fox and were treating its bloodshot eye. The program pre-shot advert of the part of the program brushed over the release of the Fox where you could clearly see that it had been tagged in one ear. It begged the question, I wonder how many of these rescued animals such as fox and deer or anything else we are permitted to hunt, have been shot after their release. Has anyone shot a tagged animal unknowingly? If you took aim on a fox only to find it was tagged, would you let it go?
rabbithunter2008
I thought tagging animals was just data reasons?

al4x
do pigeons count as I've seen some married ones of those more seriously I've not shot tagged vermin but have witnessed some foxes that had been neutered believe it or not, that definitely smacks of the RSPCA at their wackiest. Naturally there is no way on this earth I wouldn't shoot a tagged fox as tagged or not they all eat the same things.
Axe
Charlie, did you ever report in with the tag numbers?
CharlieT
No. Thought it would make me as daft as they are !!
Axe
Al4x, would you phone the tags through? I'm thinking it would be useful information to them, for both research on the animal and how best to spend their money perhaps. Edited September 4, 2008 by Axe Additional comment. al4x
depends but only if it was to moan about releasing them on a shooting estate and to let them know what would happen to future ones. Otherwise we do get tagged pheasants from a neighbouring estate which we usually let them know about
grasshopper
Al4x, would you phone the tags through? You would have to in order to claim your prize!!! I would drop it on the spot,if it was on the shoot(don,t bother them anywhere else) Think i would ring it in,even if it was only to point out the folly of there ways Although not all landowners want them gone,so there will be some safe havens. I thought it was illegal to release vermin???
Axe
I know its illegal to release Grey Squirells but don't know of anything else, i'm sure there must be others.
codling99
id be more inclined to shoot it if it was tagged, just to see what it says on the tag lol. and oi would ring them if there s a number on it,just to warn them not bother letting any more go near my permissions. Bleeh
I know its illegal to release Grey Squirells but don't know of anything else, i'm sure there must be others. Anything that's classed as an Invasive foreign species, namely mink. There's a few other fish that you can never release, some turtle, and a few others, and a bunch of plants. Anyway. Quick story, I went out pidgeon shooting last year, and the fields which had Thousands on them before, where empty. I waited for two hours, hoping, but nothing came, then, on the verge of me about to leave, a little glimmer of hope flew over. A quick blast at out feathery friend and he fell from the sky. Going to collect the pidgeon with a smile, I picked him up, swore, Cut the tag of his leg, and ran off. Dam racing pidgeons. .

Now that is funny If anybody does know of a fox release program ( Tagged or not) i would be quite happy to accomadate them on ony of the estates i shoot on.
