pantheman
Ok, heres for a newbie question. My little bitch is around 8 months now and I am getting a bit concerned as she shares a run with her bro. Is it obvious when they come on heat, I mean will I know? I have been checking her for leaks, swelling, but are none, yet Jack (her bro) seems to sniff at her rear end more so now. I have never seen him try anything on her so I may be safe for the mo. Any directions would be appreciated. Cheers
deeksofdoom
You will see swelling and blood. She may also lick herself clean so you might want to get a tissue and do 'you know what with it', to see if there is any blood.
Mrs Sweepy
First thing first Have you got somewhere you can keep them separate. We had the same problem in are house with are bitch and dog. remember whatever you used to keep them away from each other it has to be dog proof. Because believe me you male dog will want it so bad And your female will be so happy to give it to him too And then your have the howling to. O dear bet your glad i answer your post now sorry The first time my springer was on heat we hardly notice any blood but Her little lady bits really did swell. If shes like my bitch it will be the swelling that tell you she is coming into season. The second time she can into season it was like the flood gates had open. The couple of days before i had notice some spots of blood on the floor but had put it down to one of the dogs having the cut In that time she was still in with my dog. Carry on doing what you are doing keeping the eye on her . If she did suddenly come into season overnight . I would not panic to much As like any female whos menstruating to begin with she more likly bite his head off then give him the come on. . If you are in any doubt you can always get her check at the vets. But you must sort out where you are going to keep them separate when it do happen. If you look back on here you will find that NTTF has done the post on the bitchs menstrual cycle. And his so much better that putting people right then myself. I just tend to confuse them even more . xxxxsuzy

jef
Once you spot the "muckle divet" you'll know. My cocker was 9 months when she started. James
bignoel
your dog will be trying his luck long before she is ready as he will sence her season she wont stand for him till around the 11th day you should notice his behavior before danger point. ? iano
You should see a change in attitude in the fella. Bitch might also get a bit grumpier - happens sometimes in ours. As mentioned, have somewhere they can't get at each other at all! Down the farm, the bitches get locked up in the cattle truck!
